Supporting this project will allow my students to each have a book in their hand to use at school and at home as they read, learn and discuss topics related to the American Revolution. This particular novel not only addresses the historical facts of the times, but also tunes into the experiences of the many people who were affected by the war. How can we learn from the past to move forward in history while also trying to not repeat the errors of the past? Well, the first way is to be informed of the facts and read historical-based novels to place ourself in the time of history. Next, is the experience of rich discussions, activities, and simulations that allow us to explore multiple perspectives of the times. Students will be reading at school as well as at home while they explore the many topics related to the American Revolution. This historical fiction novel offers many points of view that students can explore while learning the historical context of the times.
