Due to the budget cuts and the increase in the cost of living, schools and teachers cannot fund essential or extras things which are needed to maintain a learning environment for our students. I am a Fourth Grade Reading/ Language Arts Teacher in a rural high poverty area. I try to provide my students with needed supplies. However, my funds run short; causing me heart-break and despair for knowing that I do not have the funding for the supplies that will help advance my students' learning. I teach approximately 65 students within a 5 block period. They are a wonderful set of students, who are eager to learn. Their love of writing is what inspired me to make this proposal. As a teacher, I inspire to create a writer in every student. However, if I do not provide them with the appropriate resources to ensure they are ready to meet the challenges of today's Common Core Standards-as readers and writers; I might as well tell them their dreams are not obtainable.
