  • Decodable Reading Strategies

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Thank you again for your generosity in donating to my classroom. It is crazy how time flies and we are already at our winter break.

My students have made SO much progress since the beginning of the school year. I truly could not have done it without your generosity and materials. The books you provided have allowed me to reach so many levels of readers and my students genuinely enjoy reading about all of the topics.

I think our favorite materials are the decodable cards and we use them almost daily to give introductions to new skills or for independent review.

Thank you for the kindness you have shown me and my students, and I hope you keep reading about things you enjoy, too!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lynott

    Funded Sep 25, 2022

Thank you so much for all that you did to help fund this project. I can't wait to get my materials and put them into practice with my students. I know my students are going to be so excited for these new books for read aloud and independent reading time.

A special thank you to all of the Maury families and community members who rallied around this project and donated. It was such a kind gesture and you have really made this new community member feel so loved and supported.

Thank you again for your kindness and I can't wait to share more!”

  • Independent Playtime Materials

    Funded Feb 7, 2017

Thank you for your generosity in supplying my students and I with fun, engaging materials to work with this past school year. They were definitely some of our favorite materials and were requested almost daily!

When the materials first arrived, the students were really curious about the sensory items and enjoyed exploring which materials they did and did not like. The bounce bands for the chairs were really helpful for our most wiggly friends and the cushions were a favorite for sitting and standing.

The games were most certainly a highlight of all the items. It was great to use these to practice a variety of skills such as color recognition, one to one correspondence, and creating sets. They also taught us some important social skills lessons such as turn taking and working through disappointment when things don't go your way.

Thank you again for all of your kindness, support, and love during our school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lynott

  • We're Going to Kindergarten!

    Funded Apr 4, 2018

Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom. These materials allowed my students to finish the year strong and so many of them met their personal math and ELA goals due to the practice they received with these materials. It is a new year, but my students are already finding great joy in learning and are excited about these materials. They love using their creativity to build with the marble run and shape builders. We truly appreciate your generosity and thank you for the lasting impact that you are making.”

  • Books For Independent Reading

    Funded Sep 18, 2017

Thank you again for your kind donations. The books we received have been so great for teaching our students about new topics and offering lots of different discussion ideas. While the majority of them are emerging readers, they love looking at the pictures and making connections to the stories. Our books are used each morning during our independent reading time where the students can find a space in the classroom to practice their reading. Some students have even found a favorite within the bunch and have read the book multiple times.

The books about families and diversity have provided so many opportunities for text to self and text to world connections. The students love seeing characters and photographs of people that look like themselves and share some of the same interests. We have also been learning about the story elements of character and setting and have been practicing using some of the fiction texts. The books about nature that we had requested are also of great interest to the students. They are amazed by all of the photography of bugs in the Bugopedia! It has also been a great tool to make connections to the changing weather which is mentioned in a few of the texts.

We are so thankful for the wonderful books that have been provided to us through your generosity. We look forward to learning and growing with these books as the year continues. Thanks again!”

  • Preschool Field Trip to the Baltimore Aquarium

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

On behalf of the PreK 3 team at Excel Academy, I want to extend our most sincere gratitude for your generous donations. Without you, our girls would not have been able to take part in such a fun and enriching experience. We had the best time on our trip looking at sharks, touching jellyfish and stingrays, and learning about lots of new creatures! It was a great way to celebrate all that we have learned this year and give our students an opportunity they may not have had otherwise. We cannot thank you enough for providing our scholars with this wonderful trip!”

  • Materials for Clothing Unit

    Funded Feb 22, 2016

Thank you again for your donations to our classroom project. My scholars have been able to learn so many new concepts and skills because of your generosity!

When our materials first arrived, we were just beginning our unit on clothing. These items allowed the students to learn about new things such as textiles, sewing, weaving, wrapping and fastening things together. The changes I have seen in my scholars since using these materials are amazing. I am happy to say that many of my students are now able to tie their own shoes and zip their own coats because of all the practice they did with the dressing frames! Not only does this save us so much during the day, but they have a new found confidence and independence that makes them so proud. We also strengthened our fine-motor skills by using the buttons and weaving. Their work with button sorting has lead them to realize so many things can be sorted and it is not uncommon for me to see them sorting toys around the classroom by color, shape, and size during free play these days!

We have been waiting for nice weather to do our tie-dye shirts outside and have plans to complete them at the end of this week. While we have moved on to a new unit, recycling, we still plan to use all of our materials for the remainder of the year. Thank you again so much for all that you have inspired my scholars to create and learn!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lynott

My classroom has 19 energetic and excited learners. They love to spend their days playing with their peers and discovering new things. They begin each day with an eagerness to learn and be part of our classroom family. They are smart, silly, and always loving. All of my students have grown immensely since the first day of school and it is amazing to see how far they have come. Playtime in our classroom and on the playground is one of their favorite times of day. They are very creative and love reading books, using their imaginations, and building things out of all different types of blocks. We are so thankful for all the support we receive for our classroom and can't wait to try out some new materials and projects. Thank you for helping us grow!
