  • Froggy Hands Need Portable Sink

    Funded Nov 17, 2024

Thank you so much for donating the sinks. Before they arrived, students had to go around the corner to clean their hands after their Science experiments. Now, they can wash them from the classroom. The sinks have made a huge difference and impact. We can't thank you enough. When the students dissected the frogs, they got guts and frog goo all over the floor. If we had to go around the corner to get water, it would've made a huge mess. This year, when that happened, all we had to do was to get the paper towels and water from the sink and we're able to clean the goo and guts right away. Thank you so much. We will forever be grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. H

  • Student Empowerment

    Funded Jun 13, 2021

Thank you so much for the books that you gifted to my students. Many of my students found the books to be highly engaging and thought provoking. The books were used for the Social Justice and Student Empowerment course. As one of the teachers who wrote the curriculum for the class, the topics within the This Book is Anti-Racist book provided students an opportunity to share their points of view on a variety of topics covered in the book.

Not only was the book wonderful for my students that normally like to read, it was also very enlightening to other students who don't like to read. For example, one of my students, let's call him Wilton, is a big and gruff football player, whose family has some biased views of many of the topics in the book. One day, Wilton shared in class that he had finished reading the book, ahead of the class, and he had been having some great conversations with his family about the topics, such as resisting racism. He shared that he was trying to show his family that some of their beliefs went beyond mere bias. He also shared that as a result of reading the book, his own mindset about the topics such as racism, bias, prejudice, privilege, and social identity began to help him understand some of the other culture of people in our school and on the football team.

Stories like Wilton's are just beginning to impact my students. None of this would be possible without your generous donation of the This Book is Anti-Racist. Thank you again for your donation and making a huge difference in the lives of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. H

Next school year, we are creating a student empowerment course that will help my students identify who they are as person, and what impact they can bring to the world. My students come from diverse backgrounds, and are very aware of the social justice changes going on right now. They are delighted to be the game changers of their era. Our school does work with anti-racism and helping students and teachers understand bias and making changes to halt the biases that exist in our school and in our school system. My students are super excited to a part of this new course and would love to have their own copy of the book. Due the Covid-19 regulations that my school district has, each student must have his or her own book that they can keep. The book, "This Book is Anti-Racist" by Tiffany Jewell has several topics for the students to explore such as identity, making sense of the world, and so much more. As a result of reading and participating in the activities of this book, my students will gain a sense of empowerment that will help them feel more confident in all aspects of their life.
