Scooting for Learning and Fun!

My students are going to be so excited and I can not wait to show you photos of them playing with the new euipment. Funded Dec 31, 2019Thank you so much for donations to my project. When the materials were delivered our students were so excited. We have been using some of the same equipment for a long time so the students were very happy to have new playground balls to play with.
The students were using the playground balls as something to work for during "free time" at the end of a lesson. My students pick something for "free time" at the beginning of class and when they do a good job during the lesson, they are given 5 minutes to play with that object. Everyone wanted to pick the new balls!
We were about to start a unit on step aerobics with the new steppers we got in this project before school shut down. My students were very excited about them. I can tell you that I work with occupational and physical therapists in my room and they have been using the steppers as well during their sessions. They are very helpful for keeping our student active. I can not thank you all enough for your generous donations to my project. I am sorry I can not have pictures of the students playing or thank you's from my students because school is closed. But, please know how grateful we all are. Stay safe.”

"Striking" Our Way to Fitness
Funded Jan 18, 2018Thank you for your generous donations to help fund my project. My students were so excited when the new equipment arrived and they wanted to play with everything right away. I wish you could have seen the smiles on all of their faces.
With this new equipment my students are getting opportunities that they never had before. In my pictures you can see our space is very small, so many activities have been hard to teach. In this project, we received a small net and lightweight foam rackets that allow us to play in our space. My school is in the middle of queens, so opportunities in such games and sports are minimal, and I am happy to say that this new equipment is giving my students chances to play games they never have before.
Our school struggles with funding so we do not get money every year to order new equipment in PE class. We have had the same scooters for years now and they are small for our students. We received new scooters with this project that are much bigger and move faster and the students LOVE them. They ask to play with them everyday. I am happy that these new scooter connect to each other so the students can work together in activities as well.
All this new equipment is already making a huge impact in our class and I look forward to seeing how it will help my students in the future.”

Having a Ball In APE!
Funded Nov 1, 2015Thank you again for your very generous donation to my project and our classroom. When the equipment was delivered we began to put it all together right away. The students were so excited when they came to the APE room and there was a huge basketball hoop. The students wanted to play basketball right away and they haven't stopped since! I was able to teach the students a lesson on dribbling and shooting a basketball that we were never able to do before in our small room. Now the students work and participate in other lessons so they can earn "choice time" at the end of each class when the do a good job, and all of the students have been picking basketball.
Since my class is APE, we are given a classroom instead of a traditional gymnasium. With that, our space is very limited and we did not have access to a lot of equipment. Since receiving the equipment from your donations, it has improved the quality of the lesson I can teach and has given the opportunity to my students to participate in activities that they normally do not have a chance too.
So far the students have used the new equipment to learn basketball, as well as, football skills by throwing into the target nets we received. With spring arriving soon, we will begin to work on baseball skills with the target nets, bats, and Velcro gloves from your donations. I know this will make a huge impact on all of my students' learning.
I will leave you with a little story on how this equipment has already made a change in my students. One student of mine named Daniel loved to run around the room. He struggled to participate in activities and stay on task. When we used to work on basketball skills he would run around and just carry the ball with him while other students practiced shooting on a 5-foot fisher price basketball hoop. Recently Daniel has started shooting all by himself on the 7-foot high basketball hoop without any prompting or help from the teachers. Now, he always chooses basketball during choose time and it has helped him be more active and bring out his personality.
