Communicating Through Art!
Funded Jan 23, 2023Thank you for your generous contribution towards our project "Communicating Through Art." My students have difficulty expressing themselves through traditional means of communication. These items have helped my students utilize art to increase their communication skills and has ultimately led to an increase in their self esteem.
Your contribution has enabled me to provide my students with a creative and positive outlet to express their thoughts and emotions, which will have a lasting impact on their lives. Using the Moody Monsters and Feeling Emotions Dough Mat, my students have gained a better understanding of a variety of emotions, can now label their feelings and can understand perspective taking. Now that my students have expanded their ability to express emotions, I am looking forward to seeing how they utilize their vocabulary to engage in class discussions about characters from a story. My students have been using paint rollers to recreate the setting of stories as well as creating language enriched picture scenes. With the use of the ink and Alphabet Dough Stampers, my students have been able to practice blending and segmenting sounds with familiar word families. With these new resources, my students are eager to attend speech sessions and have increased their participation and engagement during session tasks. On behalf of my students, I want to express my deepest appreciation for your kindness and generosity.”
With gratitude,

Funded Dec 19, 2022I would like to extend my gratitude to you for your generosity in supplying our speech room with hands-on material. Seeing those massive smiles on my students' faces, as I presented them with new, colorful and engaging materials has truly been such a rewarding experience. As a speech-language pathologist in New York City, I have seen firsthand how challenging it can be for students with communication disorders to keep up with their peers. Without access to the appropriate therapy materials, these students can quickly fall behind in their academic and social development. Your donation will make a significant difference in the lives of these students. With the new therapy materials, they will have the opportunity to engage in interactive and meaningful activities that will help them build their language skills and boost their confidence.
My students' eagerness to participate and attitude toward learning has increased immensely. These materials are what my students have been asking for over and over again. The Building Language and Color Discovery Boxes have been used to teach my students basic vocabulary, object function, categorization and basic concepts. Students have been improving their ability to follow directions with spatial, temporal and qualitative concepts by manipulating items throughout the therapy room. Students enjoy hiding items around the room and then having their peers search for the items based on a verbal description using target concepts. In addition, my students have been enjoying the What Goes Together? Activity Box by matching items based on associations then using their expressive language skills to express how the items relate to each other. I'm looking forward to seeing how my students continue to use their creativity with these materials and incorporate the targeted language into academic tasks.”
With gratitude,
