I want to motivate my students to read popular and exciting books on their independent reading levels. Many of these books are either not available in our school library or are in high demand, which makes them difficult to find and enjoy. Additionally, many of these new books are graphic novels- a new favorite style among my students. For our "March Madness" bracket challenge, students will read two books that are matched against each other and then vote on their favorite. Over the course of February and March, students will read and vote on their favorite matches, two at a time, to build a bracket of books along the way. Overall, students will have the opportunity to read eight or nine new books for our bracket challenge and they will practice writing skills by summarizing their favorites to defend their winning choices of each book battle. My students are great kids who will enjoy the opportunity to read new books in a fun and exciting way. I am looking forward to this book challenge and I know my students will be motivated by the competitive sports themed of the bracket challenge!
