Snacks for Hungry Learners!
Funded Jan 30, 2018We have used the abundance of snacks that you all donated in so many ways. The snacks, in general, have helped motivate students to come to school, ready to learn each and every day, persevere through academic challenges, and behave in kind and appropriate ways. For example, students work diligently to complete their work and may earn a special treat at the end of the day. We have also used the snacks to help increase attendance. For example, students with perfect attendance for the month received a special treat to take home and share with their families. Simply, we use the snacks to ensure that basic needs (i.e. hunger) are met for our students, so that they are ready to continue through the academic day. A big thank you to each and every donor for helping to make this school engaging, motivating, and overall, enjoyable for our students.”

Funded Nov 6, 2016The staff of PS 209 and I cannot express enough gratitude for your kind, thoughtful and generous donations to fund this project. Because of you, more parents have become involved in the education of their children through reading. We have been able to send these books home for our students and their families to enjoy daily. Since we received an abundance of books, we use these books as an incentive to encourage parents and their children to participate in "Parent Engagement" opportunities at our school. Once again, thank you for what you have done for us!”

Wireless Headphones for our Listening Center!
Funded Aug 26, 2016Dear Donors,
Incorporating technology into instruction is a fun way of learning. It helps my students stay actively engaged and motivated on the task at hand. In this case, my students are using the headphones provided by the generous donors to listen to books on tape/CD. As emergent readers, many of my students are unable to read leveled texts independently, which is developmentally appropriate for this time of year. The headphones allow my students to still enjoy books without necessarily being able to read the words. By hearing texts, my students are learning to ask and answer comprehensive questions. After the students hear the book, they illustrate their favorite part! My students love using the headphones because it is a different, more engaging way to learn compared to the traditional methods of instruction. Learning through the listening center benefits all students, especially those with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and English Language Learners (ELLs). We cannot thank you enough for your support through this project!”

Funded Sep 14, 2016Dear Donors,
Basic needs, such as hunger, must be fulfilled in order for students to be active participants in the learning process. When my students express that they are hungry, I am able to give them a snack that you generously provided to us. When my students' stomachs are full, I know that they are ready to learn! My students were very excited to receive the abundance of snacks that you helped send to us. They helped us open each box and were ready to work hard to earn a special treat. I use the snacks to reward my students when they complete tasks and/or follow school and class wide rules. The snacks motivate my students to try their very best each and every day. In K-Lilac, my students even use their snacks to count and model numbers during math. Although the snacks are used for personal fulfillment, we also use them during academic tasks. My students are actively engaged in learning tasks that end with a yummy snack! We cannot thank you enough for your generosity!”
