My school is a multi-cultural environment with many English Language Learners. The community is a low income neighborhood with many new immigrant families and bilingual households. Free breakfast and lunch is provided to all students. Even with these challenges, my students continue to strive, to learn and explore their education. Our school environment is one which fosters safety, education and community spirit. My biggest challenge for the middle school students is to explore their own creativity and to trust their instincts. To believe they all have the ability to create a piece of artwork that reflect their identity and community. There are many talented students at the Butler Middle School. The students are eager to learn and express new views and interpretations of their lives.
