My 3rd grade students are excited about leaning but they struggle with reading. We currently do not have a class library so during independent reading time I usually read a book to the class. Although they enjoy read alouds they need more opportunities to read independently. Reading independently gives them the chance to use the strategies they are taught during guided reading. These strategies are taught to help the increase comprehension. Once we get our classroom library the students can read independently which will increase their stamina, reading level and ultimately their self-esteem.
