  • Kids In Need - Special Needs

    Funded Dec 20, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students are so very thankful the items your donations have purchased. They have new shoes to wear to school that are clean and fit them. They have new clothes that they can wear and we also have items for them in the classroom to use in case of accidents, etc. My students finally have some of the things that they needed so desperately. Thank you so much once again for your support. DonorsChoose had made such a difference for my classroom and the well being of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rogers

  • Sports & Recreation for Special Needs Classroom

    Funded Aug 5, 2016

    Dear Target,

Thank you so much for the donation and bringing our project to life! My students are using the equipment to really improve our fitness and recess time. The students really enjoy the flag football set, the new balls, the giant tumbling blocks similar to Jenga, the tic-tac-toe and angry bird outdoor games.

All of these items are being used outside at recess! We haven't got to use them much but as the year progresses we hope to have the games outside daily and invite our non-disabled peers to join us! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rogers

  • Accessing Sports & Recreation in Special Needs Classroom

    Funded Aug 5, 2016

    Dear Target,

Thank you so much for the donation and bringing our project to life! My students are using the equipment to really improve our fitness and recess time. The students are using the Wii U on rainy days to stay active. They have really enjoyed playing Wii Sports Tennis and Bowling with one another.

The sporting equipment is being used outside during recess. The students love having their own football goals and soccer goals for playing games. The equipment provided by this project are really beneficial to us!”

  • Supplies for Special Needs Life Skills Curriculum

    Funded Jul 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

The resources provided in this project will make our classroom so much better! We can use them to learn a lot of life skills. We didn't always have the materials needed before and now we have things that we can use to learn hygiene, cleaning, grooming, and cooking.

We are waiting on our items to arrive. When they get here we will begin unpacking, organizing, and cleaning our room. We want to create a chore chart and assign daily jobs so we have some new skill to practice each day.

    Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rogers

  • Classroom Library & Listening Stations: Special Needs

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you so much for your donation! Your support has provided us with a new listening center, audio books, and a book shelf for our reading center area. We really appreciate and have enjoyed listening to the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone audio. We are going to read the book and watch the movie!

We love the addition of the bookshelf to our room. It has a place for us to put our books and listening center things. The headphones and headphone adapter allow all of us to listen together as well!

We look forward to listening to the other audio books and are very thankful for these items. Thank you again for your support!”

  • Miscellaneous Things for Miscellaneous Needs

    Funded Jan 15, 2016

Thank you so much for the donation to our class. Your donation has provided us with numerous materials to help meet the needs of individual students within our classroom and make our classroom more functional for students.

The extra storage with the shelving and bins will create an area where students can store their belongings and find independent work tasks related to the IEP goals. The materials will help fill those bins and provide opportunities to practice following directions, money, time, equivalency skills, and occupational tasks. The timers are also a nice thing and allow students to visually see how much time they have to complete a task and set some boundaries.

We love everything this donation has provided!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rogers

  • Boogie Boards, Osmo and Printer...Oh My!

    Funded Nov 11, 2015

Thank you so much for supporting our project. We are very happy to have all the new supplies and things in our room. We use the items daily in our class while working. We use the Boogie Boards to complete math activities and solve problems. The Osmo system is really fun! We practice words, numbers, puzzles, and even draw awesome pictures with its help. We have used the printer to print out pictures of our art too! This project and your help has made our class more fun and interesting. Thank you.”

  • Special Needs Functional Skills: Money Math

    Funded Sep 14, 2015

My students and I are forever grateful for your kindness and generosity. We absolutely love the new resources in our classroom. The students were very excited to see the new iPad mini and the new games and activities they can use to learn about money.

My students use the iPad daily to practice on iXL and reflex math. They also earn free time for their hard work and can play games on the iPad. We use the play money during systematic instruction to learn to identify coins and bills. We also practice next dollar strategy and much more!

The resources have afforded my students to learn using hands on strategies and visual aids. They are starting to develop some money sense when using resources. They are also more engaged and motivated due to the new items in our room. We are forever thankful for your support!”

  • Special Needs Classroom: Reading Area and Activity Supplies

    Funded Jun 1, 2015

My students absolutely love the new reading area and supplies purchased for our class through your generous support and donations. The supplies purchased are excellent and are appreciated greatly.

My students now have a special area to call their own. This area is unique, comfortable, and inviting. It helps improve our class morale and lets the students feel at ease. They can sit in the reading area and lounge on a new bean bag chair while reading a story or listening to audio stories. My students really enjoy this mini oasis in the room.

The other activity supplies purchased help my students "practice" functional academic skills and basic skills necessary to complete other tasks in a way that is fun and meaningful for them. We now have pattern blocks to practice patterns, shapes, and colors. We now have counting cubes to help us practice counting, colors, model building, and volume exercises. The Uno cards are also a great addition that allows us to invite peers into the room and play a fun game! Little do my students know but they are practicing socialization skills, turn taking, color recognition, and number recognition with non-disabled peers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rogers

I'm a special education teacher working as a co-teacher/collaborator in the general education setting. I collaborate in science, social studies, math, and ELA. I'm currently working with the 6th grade and follow the students on my caseload to their core classes. My students have a wide range of needs and disabilities fall under multiple categories including Autism, Other Health Impairment, Intellectual Disabilities, and Specific Learning Disabilities. I also coach the academic team and this gives me an opportunity to work with gifted students and provide enrichment opportunities for them. The academic team focuses on 5 content areas: arts & humanities, language arts, math, science, and social studies. Students compete in these content areas in individual tests and quick recall (think quiz bowl). Competitions are held at the district, region, and state level.
