  • Rockin' Rhythms in Music Classes

    Funded Oct 19, 2021

We are rockin' in music because of your generous donations. We have new rhythm reading stations, rhythmic games, and rhythm assessments. My students are SO excited to have new activities each year. Samantha said, "Mrs. Havey, I love the instruments and especially the new lollipop drums." They're colorful (looks just like big lollipops). We are using your drums, boomwhackers, maracas, tambourines, and rhythmic sticks that have been purchased.

Kindergarteners through fifth graders are using the purchased rhythm reading stations and rhythm dice games to increase their knowledge and performance of notation (from simple quarter notes and eighth notes to complex triplets, 16th notes, and many combinations of steady and syncopated beats. Thomas said, "It's fun to learn more rhythms that we can sing, play, and dance to." My students are enjoying the Halloween, Christmas, Winter Snow, HipHop, and Vivaldi's rhythm activities purchased.

Thank you Donors! Ponderosa Elementary School students will enjoy the "Rockin' Rhythm" materials for many years to come. Your kindness benefits my students. Thanks for being helpful and willing to share your love of music with me and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Havey

  • Jazzed for Reading Books in Music

    Funded Mar 22, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my music room this year! Greatly appreciate it!! My students have thoroughly loved reading time because of the fantastic books about music, culture, history, composers, instruments, and more. Thanks for your support!

Our favorites are books with sound accompaniment. Students can read-along AND sing-along. They love play-alongs and body percussion books also. You made their year with new books to my music library. Thanks!

I'm thrilled to share your love of music to my students through the purchase of these musical books. Always "keep a song in your heart and a dance in your step!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Havey

I will use the following books: Your Name is A Song, Rhythm Rescue, The Song Garden, Too Much Noise, Wild Symphony, Dancing Hands: How Teresa Carreno Played the Piano for President Lincoln, Singing in the Rain, Music Is...., We Are Music. I love reading to my students and they love being read to. In my music classes, I include a book or two per month that helps teach them music concepts, build vocabulary, respond to culture and history, create rhythms and melodies, understand composers and instruments, and perform. This experience includes exposing students to new instruments, connecting musical cultures, connecting music history, and music as an expression of self. Also, these books will be available to all students in a musical reading center.
