The two Dash and Dot Robot Wonder Packs would add a new element to our coding curriculum ... an element that would allow students to see their programs come to life. Currently, LES students learn to code using various online coding websites and iPad apps; but with Dash and Dot, they will be able to see how writing a program can actually make an object move and perform tasks. These adorable robots are easy to code, making them a great tool for those students who may feel intimidated by the field of programming and robotics. They are adaptable to all grade levels, thus a perfect fit for our K-5 library/computer lab program. Coding and robotics teaches kids to think logically, but at the same time to think outside the box. It provides opportunities to be creative, to work collaboratively, and to find solutions to real-world problems. Dash and Dot will allow our students to not only learn basic programming skills, but will act as a tool to enhance Common Core curriculum through project-based learning. Projects will be student-driven, challenging them to be creative problem solvers, to share knowledge, and to work cooperatively. In addition to using Dash and Dot in our media center program, we would like to use them in our after school coding club. This will allow students to explore deeper into the field of coding and robotics by completing Wonder Workshop challenges and participating in the 2016 Robotics Competition.
