Rome and Her Kings
Funded Aug 4, 2009Many of you may recall high school Latin as endless hours of conjugating verbs, declining nouns and memorizing endings by rote. That is actually how I learned Latin in the 1980's, or as my students would say "in ancient times". Those methods may have worked then, but teaching Latin today demands a new approach. Today's students need innovative teaching methods and interesting subject matter to keep them focused. I can provide the methods but when I needed new, exciting, challenging Latin reading books filled with engaging stories for my students, I turned to Donorschoose.org.
I knew that I could rely on the generosity of the Donorschoose family. That word "family" describes how I am beginning to view the generous contributors of Donorschoose. This is my fourth project funded. Your continuous generosity enables teachers to create engaging, enjoyable lessons that encourage students to stay focused. I don't think I need to elaborate on the importance of education. Your contributions prove that you are well aware. Thank you so much for your continued commitment to the next generation and your support of education. I tell my students frequently that the best way to say thank you is to use their education to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Thank you once again.”

Funded Mar 18, 2009Thank you so much for the generous gift of the dictionaries. This is the second donation my classroom has received this year from Donorschoose, a remarkable organization which supports the educational development of our future generation. In these difficult economic times, many of us frequently complain about not being able to afford things we consider "necessary" e.g. new furniture, designer clothes, etc. Few of us really know what "necessary" really is. Imagine considering school supplies like dictionaries, pencils and paper "luxury items". Many of my students work after school jobs and turn their paychecks over to their families to pay bills. Many times I've assigned projects to my classes and students have approached me in private to say they have no supplies (poster board, markers, glue, etc. ) to do the projects. Some are too proud to admit their financial distress and don't want to ask for assistance. I have tried to keep my classroom stocked with supplies for the students' use and pay for the items out of my own pocket. Kind, supportive, dedicated donors like you, who understand the importance of education, are invaluable to teachers like me. Not only do you make classroom projects possible, but you also teach the students good character. My students are aware of the donations, and I have made them promise on their honor to be equally charitable when they become successful doctors, lawyers, business executives, teachers, etc. Ut sementem feceris ita metes. The future generation will reap the benefits of your generosity.”

Funded Dec 8, 2008Gratias tibi! Thanks to you! Today, in class, the students were translating "Cinderella" from Latin to English. They were struggling with the vocabulary and the small glossary in back of the textbook was not much help. I was so thrilled and surprised to receive this email that our dictionaries were funded. I can't wait to tell the students tomorrow. Thank you again”
