Can You Hear Me Now?
Funded Aug 4, 2017We want to thank you for your donations to this amazing project. It has been an extremely useful tool for our marching program. When we get on the field for practice, this project helps me save my voice. When the band is playing, and I need to make corrections, give instructions, or simply get them to change something as they march and play, having the speaker and wireless mic makes this possible. I especially like being wireless, because I can walk just about anywhere on the field and be heard. This also allows me to move to the problem spot in the drill or to praise a scholar for what they are doing well. We use this on the field, in the classroom, and in the gym through out the season and year. This project will help impact our program for many years to come.”

"Setting" Up for Success!
Funded Feb 13, 2017My band scholars were so excited to receive our new drum set! They could not believe how amazing it was to have a real drum set that had all working parts. I always let my scholars be a part of opening and assembling new equipment like our drum set. One, it helps educate them on proper assembly of equipment and two, I am able to show them how to do regular maintenance on the equipment so we can take care of it and make it last a long time. They each wanted a turn sitting at the drum set to see what it felt like. For many, this is going to be their first encounter with playing a drum set.
This project will serve our band program in two major capacities. One, it will allow us to learn the basics of playing a drum set. Many of my scholars have never had the opportunity to learn or play a drum set because of cost, space at home, or just because of the noise it creates. Now, these limitations are no longer an issue. Two, it will allow us to take the knowledge of learning drum set performance and apply it to a new ensemble we are working on with the Jazz Band. This drum set will allow us to continue to build the rhythm section to perform with the jazz band. We are very excited about the many learning and performance opportunities that are ahead.
As we close out this school year and look to the next, I have been able to purchase drum set method books to use in our curriculum. Our percussion ensemble classes allow each young percussionist learn and explore the many facets of the percussion world. Thank you again for your generosity and support of my amazing scholars and program.”

Xylophone Most Wanted! (And Needed!)
Funded Apr 9, 2015My percussion scholars were so excited the day our new xylophone arrived! They are so appreciative to have the actual equipment needed to play and practice on. As you can see from the photos, they worked together to assemble the instruments themselves and quickly went to playing their scales two full octaves and this wonderful instrument.
We use the xylophone everyday in class in one way or another. We have scales to play and memorize. They are working on an ensemble piece for our fall concert in few weeks. The scholars rotate who is able to play it on different concert pieces we are working on with the entire band. It also is helping those auditioning for District Honor Band in December have the proper equipment to play on and practice.
The scholars are ready to continue to help grow our percussion equipment so that everyone in the group will have the right equipment to help our ensemble sound and concert playing improve and be where it needs to be. They are grateful and humbled by your generosity and support.”
