We want the students in our inclusive classroom to have access to the best of both worlds: digital and paper/print. So we are requesting 2 Chromebooks and a class subscription to Time for Kids magazing. My co-teacher and I want our students to understand that there are different modes of learning and accessing information. We are not a "one size fits all" classroom and our resources need to reflect the different learning styles in our classroom. Our classroom was set up with a Promethean interactive board last June and the Chromebooks will help the students access the different programs the board offers. They will be able to digitally access information as well as participate in lessons. The Time for Kids magazines will be the paper print students can still tangibly access in a time of tablets and smart phones. Not only will students be able to read up on current events and learn to form opinions backed up with details from a text, but they will be able to take an individual issue home with them to share with their families and use for their nightly reading assignments. We expect students to read at home, but often times they don't always have the resources to do so. Now they will be able to take home their own copy of a magazine. These materials will motivate our students to continue to come to school and learn. We have been encouraging students to find their voice and use it - in their speaking, in their writing, in all of their academics!
