Binder Bonanza!
Funded Aug 24, 2009I cannot thank you enough for the binders. My scholars are in their third week of school and I can already see the impact of the binders. First of all, they help my scholars organize themselves, and really see what they have accomplished and what they have left to do. But also, when I gave each scholar the binder that you provided them, you could see them comprehend that others were investing in them.
Many of them even verbalized that this is going to be a serious class and that they thought that they were going to learn a lot. It was invaluable and incredible for them to internalize others' investment in them and how seriously you and I take their learning.
Thank you so much for helping to make this a reality on the very first day. ”
With gratitude,

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and one other donor.Special Shelves for Special Binders
Funded Mar 15, 2009I cannot thank you enough for the classroom materials. The binders look so much more organized and accessible in the shelves that you bought. Before, there were binders just stacked on top of one another, and because I teach over 140 students, sometimes it was very difficult for students to find their binders. This would waste time and energy that we could have used on learning. Now, when a class comes in- they just go to their class's shelf and take out their binder and sit down. The process is so much more orderly and efficient because all binders are visible.
On top of that, the classroom looks a great deal more organized. With so many students coming in and out of the class, things can become pretty muddled very quickly. Since I really take organization seriously and think that the students need an environment that is conducive to their learning- I was spending time on constantly reorganizing. Due to your generosity, I have one less thing I have to worry about and that has made a big difference. Part of my job is to make my students understand that they have to sweat the small stuff. Efforts and things that may not seem monumental add up- and I want my students to be detailed-oriented and care about all aspects of their learning and lives. The behavior I am looking for needs to be modeled everyday and you have done that. You have shown that a stranger who doesn’t even know them, cares enough to take care of something for them. Hopefully, they will see the effort put in by you and others, and they will then mirror that care and behavior and all things they undertake- big and small.
So once again, I want to thank you for your generosity. The students and I are so grateful. For them to know that someone who has never met them- cares about them and their learning- is a very important realization for them. If they feel invested in, they will invest in themselves more. You are part of this investment and for that I am grateful. ”
With gratitude,
