There are 24 students in my classroom. More than half come from homes with limited resources. Several are English Language Learners and speak mostly Spanish. For many of my students, kindergarten is their first experience in an educational setting. Our school is a Title I school, meaning that many children live at or below the poverty level. In Kindergarten, I work hard to catch my students up and to prepare them for 1st grade. Because so many never went to preschool, they are lacking social skills, math skills, reading skills, and basic communication skills. Part of our daily schedule is "choosing time" when students can choose to play whatever they want. Some do art, others Lego's, some read, but many play games. Because there are so many boys in my class (17 boys, and 7 girls) I need activities that are educational and physical.
