Students will have access to a (growing) classroom library representing diverse voices outside the traditional cannon. Many of these titles speak to current issues directly relevant to their own experiences. They will read the books in collaborative literature circles (teenage "book clubs") exploring their own identities through narrative fiction and nonfiction. The stories, essays and poetry will help inspire my students to validate and create their own artistic narratives. As a performing arts high school, these "narratives" will be expressed traditionally through written stories and poems, as well as through other arts media--monologues, plays, 2D and 3D visual art (paintings, sculpture, photography, etc.) dance choreography and performance and music composition and performance.

About my class
