Sensory Integration Zone
Funded Apr 14, 2021I would like to share with you the impact that this project has had on my students. My students now have an age appropriate, relaxing, fun place to enjoy whenever they need a break or a nice sensory experience. Students communicate when they would like to use the room by asking for a break in the sensory room or "purchasing" time in the room via reinforcement "dollars". Staff can also encourage use of the room when they can see that a student might need some "time away" from the hustle and bustle of of the daily routine.
When my students first saw the new equipment in the room, they were especially excited over the lights that are on the wall. The lights provide a soothing sense of calm and can be changed to meet the needs of each student. The colors and movement of the lights stimulate students in different ways according to their needs. The other favorite of the room is the fabric swing that hangs for some pressure and relaxation.
Our class has already made a list of items that we would like to add to the room including speakers, mirrors and rocking seating, to name a few items. The space is truly student driven and we even have a list on the board that grows as the desire appears. Thank you so much for your generosity!”

An Ear-Resistable Way to Help Sensory Involved Students to Learn!
Funded Jun 8, 2020As you are aware, this has been an unprecedented year for education. How could I have possibly known the impact this project would have not only on my students, but my staff! When I originally wrote this project, I had no idea we would be dealing with the need for these earphones in the way we have. With all of my students with special needs on some form of distance learning, it has become even more imperative to use the headphones, since I have many small groups of students and staff on Zoom, in the same classroom, at the same time!
The headphones that are used in my classroom are used at this time to manage small groups of staff and students connecting with one another in small, uninterrupted sessions. We have been able to have 1:1 tutorials, small group lessons, and even meetings all going on at the same time with a level of non-interruption we never would have been able to manage with out the headphones. When my students are in class one time a week at this time, I try not to utilize the computers too much at this time so that we may have more face to face moments. However, when we are working from a distance, the headphones that we have are priceless! Thank you so much for your support!”

One Measurement at a Time
Funded Jun 18, 2020Thank you very much for all of the kitchen supplies. As I am sure you may
imagine, teachers spend a lot of their own time and money purchasing supplies for their classroom. Cooking supplies are one of those instrumental learning tools that teachers use, especially teachers of students with learning challenges, that bring math to life. Unfortunately, they are also a difficult purchase to get funded. Many real life skills can be taught, brought to life, and practiced through cooking. Topics such as time, measurement, sequencing, reading, money, budgeting, shopping, kitchen safety, among many other skills can be taught through cooking. By receiving the many items we did, we can explore cooking nearly on a daily basis. As our students have only just recently returned to class, I have not been able to take pictures of the many uses to come. This week I will be sharing a waffle making project and a popcorn making project using the measuring tools, bowls, mixer, mini waffle makers, waffle mix, and microwave, to name a few. My students have seen the tools and have begun planning this project and are very excited to say the least! The next steps will be to plan another cooking project of their choice! Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ross
