  • Classroom Supplies

    Funded Nov 17, 2013

Thank you for your donation to our students. Your donation helped supply 5 classrooms with pens, markers, paint, and glue. That is serving up to 125 students! We are very thankful for your generosity.

In first grade, we made anchor charts to help scaffold learning and we also used the flesh colored paint for self portraits. In fourth grade, we made 3-D maps and used the glue for making paper mache. In second grade, we have been using the dry erase markers to practice our spelling and writing. All of the classrooms have been able to use the crayons, glue, glitter and paint to create beautiful artwork.

Because of your donation we are able to give our students these supplies to enhance their learning and imagination. We appreciate your support and kindness towards children's education!”

    With gratitude,

  • Lets Get Organized!

    Funded Aug 1, 2013

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my second grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to keep their books safe and organized with their brand new book bags.

Since receiving the book bags in our classroom, the students have been able to store multiple books in their book bags. They then keep their book bags tucked safely within their desks. During literacy or independent reading time, the students take out their book bags and read their books throughout the classroom. Sometimes they read at their seats, sometimes they read at the carpet and sometimes they carry their book bags to other classrooms to read with their reading buddies. I am happy to report that there hasn't been one damaged book yet this school year! We have also been using our brand new pencil sharpener on a daily basis. Each week a new student is chosen to have the job of being the "Pencil Sharpener Person" and they take care of the class pencils. The pencil sharpener is easy for them to use and works like a pro! We have never run out of sharp pencils once this year! This makes work time run a lot more smoothly for all of us.

Thank you again for your generosity. Because of your donation, my students are able to keep their books protected and their pencils sharpened. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • Rock Out at the Rock Museum!

    Funded Jan 23, 2013

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to our third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that all of the third grade students in our school were able to experience an amazing field trip to the Rocks and Minerals Museum.

When I first told my students they were going to have the opportunity to go on this field trip free of charge, they were astounded. At the rock museum they began their tour by viewing fossilized wood that was millions of years old. My students loved the beautiful designs and colors that they created. Next they viewed a giant room full of beautiful minerals including: gold, precious gemstones and the famous "Alma Rose" rhodochrosite. After that they looked at dinosaur fossils, pieces of meteorites and other rocks from outer space. One of their favorite parts of the museum tour was when they got to see minerals under an ultraviolet black light. The effect creates what they call the "Rainbow Display" and the students can't stop saying "ooh" and "aah." Throughout the entire tour, their museum guide was asking them questions, challenging their thinking and providing them with new information on rocks and minerals. One of my students came up to me after one of the discussions and said, "I can't believe minerals are used in our cell phones and even our toothpaste!" Our tour ended with all of the students choosing their own pet rock to take home from a giant outside rock pile. The kids were absolutely thrilled to have their very own rock to take home and add to their collection.

Thank you again for your generosity. Because of your donation, over 80 students were able to experience an unforgettable field trip full of fun and learning. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • Tablet Time!

    Funded Dec 29, 2012

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to experience the wonder of learning through a Samsung Tablet.

Since receiving the tablet in our classroom, I have been utilizing it on a daily basis to support the students' learning throughout the curriculum. During literacy, I keep it close by during guided reading groups. As we are reading different fiction and non-fiction stories, I use the tablet to show the students pictures of new vocabulary words. This is especially helpful when the book they are reading doesn't have any pictures for them to reference. It has been wonderful to see the look of understanding in my students' eyes as they say, "Oh, now I get it!" I also pick one student a day who gets to read books on the tablet during their independent reading time. This allows them to follow along with the words as the story is read aloud to them. They absolutely love having the opportunity to read on it, and they can't wait to be picked again. During math time I allow different students to play math games on it to work on various math skills such as multiplication, division and fractions. The games are interactive and provide visuals for my ESL students to access as they learn. This table has become an interactive and one of a kind tool that has made learning meaningful and fun for my students.

Thank you again for your generosity. Because of your donation, my students are able to experience a plethora of pictures, words, games and stories through the touch of their hands. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • Ready, Set, Print!

    Funded Nov 2, 2012

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to see beautiful color photographs on their posters and hanging on our classroom walls.

Since receiving the printer in our classroom, I have been utilizing it on a daily basis to support the students' learning throughout the curriculum. As we studied penguins, I was able to create labeled pictures of all the different penguins we were studying. The students loved looking at them as a reference and they used the pictures to help them select which penguin they wanted to research. When they did their research reports, the students got to select their own penguin picture to print for their research poster. They were excited to see how quickly those pictures were at their disposal. Currently we are studying rocks, and I once again used the printer to create labeled pictures of many different types of rocks. Having these pictures hanging on the walls has helped remind the students of the types of rocks and their visual characteristics. Besides science, I have used the printer to create diagrams, word charts and strategy posters in literacy, math and writing. The kids are excited for the opportunity to type their future writing projects and then print them out on the printer. After telling them about printing their stories, one student said, "Our stories will look like real authors wrote them!" This printer has become an amazing tool that has literally brought color and life to learning in our classroom.

Thank you again for your generosity. Because of your donation, my students are able to experience a plethora of pictures and writing in color, clarity and beauty. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • The Power of Listening

    Funded Sep 26, 2012

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to experience firsthand the joy of listening to wonderful audio books.

Since receiving these CD players and books, my students have been ecstatic about literacy and quiet reading time in our classroom. During our daily literacy time the students get to choose a CD book to listen to and read along with. After they are finished listening to the book, they then practice reading it out loud to themselves to practice their accuracy and fluency. By listening to the book first, they are much more confident and successful when they read it independently. Along with reading the books during literacy time, the students get to listen to these books during our daily quiet reading time. The students are always so excited to choose a new and different book to listen to. Their favorites are: Dr. Seuss, the funny Wodney Wat, and the Penguin non-fiction books. What is truly wonderful about these CD books is that they have allowed all of the students in my classroom to access authentic fiction and non-fiction books at all different reading levels. I am able to support their reading development while helping them to be confident, engaged, and excited about reading time.

Thank you again for your generosity. Because of your donation, my students are becoming better listeners, readers and most importantly, learners. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • Writing with the Authors

    Funded Nov 29, 2011

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to experience firsthand the joy of authentic literature.

Since receiving these books, my students have been ecstatic about writing and literacy in our classroom. During our daily writing time I have been reading aloud from different books that support our writing units. While learning about Narrative writing, I read aloud Roller Coaster to demonstrate how to write a "small moment" story. I also read aloud Fireflies and Owl Moon to show them how to add descriptive details to their writing. During our Expository unit, I read The Popcorn Book and Into the Sea to the class, which helped them to write factual information on topics that they are experts on. Along with reading the books aloud to the whole class, the students also get to read these books during their independent reading time. Two of their favorite books are Knuffle Bunny and Knuffle Bunny Too, which not only get them laughing, but have taught them about graphic novel writing. It's amazing to watch my students become better independent readers, while also learning to become better writers. They can hardly wait to start our Imaginative writing unit! These books have enabled me to support my students' writing development, while providing them with engaging reading material.

Thank you again for your generosity. Having these literature books in our classroom has allowed me to blend the best of both worlds: reading and writing. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • Poetry Power!

    Funded Oct 13, 2010

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to experience firsthand the joy of rich authentic poetry.

Since receiving these poetry books in our classroom, my students have been ecstatic, wanting to read them every day during independent reading time. They love to laugh with poems by Shel Silverstein and Alan Katz. Another book that many of my students have connected with on a personal level is Hip Hop Speaks to Children. During our poetry unit, I read aloud a variety of poems from these books so that my students could hear and see the many different forms of great poetry. I also used these books as models for the students' writing. The students learned how to write haiku's from the book, If not for the Cat. They also learned how to write color poems from Hailstones and Halibut Bones and Color me a Rhyme. These poetry books have not only allowed me to successfully teach poetry to my students, but more importantly they have inspired them to write their own poetry.

Thank you again for your generosity. Because of your donation, I am able to immerse my students in wonderful poetry and show them the joy that comes from reading and writing poetry in all of its forms. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • Measurement Rules!

    Funded Sep 15, 2010

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to experience firsthand the joy of authentic math resources.

Since receiving these measurement materials, my students have been ecstatic about math time in our classroom. During our daily math time I have been integrating measurement problem-solving using the measurement flip-book. The students are always excited to see what type of problem we will get to solve next and guessing whether it will be about volume, weight, or distance. We also used the measuring tapes during our study of watermelons. The students were able to measure the height, width and diameter of different sized watermelons in centimeters and inches. They were also enthralled to measure how many feet they could spit their watermelon seeds (16 feet was the record). The liquid measuring cups have been instrumental in demonstrating the difference between cups/gallons and milliliters/liters to the students. They are constantly using all of the hands-on materials to help them solve their math problems during their independent work time. It has been amazing for me to watch their excitement while seeing them grow as mathematicians. These measurement materials have enabled me to support my students' math understanding and learning, while providing them with fun and real-life resources.

Thank you again for your generosity. Having these math materials in our classroom has allowed me to create a fun and supportive math environment where all of my students feel successful and excited about math time. Teaching about measurement is no longer the great challenge it once was for me. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education.”

  • Making Math Meaningful Through Literature

    Funded Sep 2, 2010

I hardly have the words to express my extreme gratitude towards your wonderful donation to my third grade students. It is because of your kindness and giving heart that my students are now able to experience firsthand the joy of authentic math literature.

Since receiving these math books, my students have been ecstatic about math and literacy in our classroom. During our daily math time I have been reading aloud from different books that support our math units. While learning about symmetry, I read aloud "Let's Fly a Kite" to demonstrate real-life examples of things that are symmetrical. During our measurement unit, I read "Measuring Penny" to the class, which helped them to understand the difference between height, weight, and length. Along with reading the books aloud to the whole class, the students also get to read these books during their independent reading time. It's amazing to watch my students become better independent readers, while also learning important math concepts. Each day they are excited to read a different book that will teach them something new about math. They can hardly wait until we start learning about fractions! These books have enabled me to support my students' math understanding and learning, while providing them with engaging reading material.

Thank you again for your generosity. Having these math books in our classroom has allowed me to blend the best of both worlds: math and literacy. This experience wouldn't have been possible without your donation and support of children's education. ”

I am a 3rd grade teacher in a high poverty school in the northwest. 84% of my students are on free or reduced school lunch and breakfast. There is a wide range of diversity in our school and classroom, with 9 different native languages being spoken by my 24 students. While there are many challenges presented by the school environment and the linguistic and cultural differences with my students, I personally know that there is no where else that I would rather teach.
