Osmo is a coding program that would very appropriately introduce otherwise inaccessible content to our students. It works in conjunction with the iPad and Osmo Genius suite, which we have already purchased as adaptive materials to support our highly diverse, and both gifted and challenged population. Osmo Coding is the easiest way to introduce coding to students; it also teaches logic skills and problem solving. Though it is created for students ages 5-10, it will work perfectly for those of our older students who need unique presentation methods and materials. Dash and Dot Robots offer comprehensive learning opportunities to students (and teachers) with no prior experience with coding! These robots "ignite curiosity and confidence while providing fun ways of learning the essential skills of collaboration, communication, and digital literacy." Comprehensive lesson plans are correlated to national science, math and coding standards. But most importantly, these educational tools will allow our small group of unique students to learn skills that will help make them competitive in a post-secondary world outside our little island. With your generous help ~these young, budding scientists will build confidence, and continue to build a positive sense of purpose and success in the world. Innovative, engaging materials, otherwise out of the reach of these students, really can make the difference in the path these children take, and the richness they gain ~ and contribute ~ in their adult lives.
