  • We Shall SUCCEED

    Funded Oct 15, 2019

Thanks so much for supporting our School Project! Words can not express my gratitude. Your donation supported many students. They were thrilled to receive the thoughtful gifts. The earphones and workbooks have gotten my student to increase in assessment scores and reading levels. For example, last year when they were in fourth grade they passed the district-level assessment at 26%, this year they passed at 51%. I believe it's because of the donations you all made. Thank you for being generous and caring about the success of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

  • Interactive Reading

    Funded Oct 21, 2015

My students and I are very thankful for the resources. While I am working with small guided reading and skills groups, my students work independently at workstations using the different learning activities you provided. The resources allow my students to go beyond the textbook and to study complex topics based on real-world issues. Students get to expand their vocabulary through games and short stories.

When my students first seen the materials they were really excited. They couldn't wait to go to workstations, so that they could utilize the materials. The resources have really changed the mindset of my children, now they enjoy workstations and reading.

Our current focus now is building stamina and knowledge for STAAR. My students will be reading a lot of nonfiction stories. Our goal as a class is to understand what the questions are asking so that we can answer them effectively.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. White

The majority of my students come from uneducated, single parent households. I am learning that new knowledge cannot be built effectively on a weak foundation. I had to determine where students prior knowledge contained inaccuracies, naive assumptions, and/or misunderstandings of the contexts and conditions in which to apply particular skills. I discovered that my students are not at a fifth grade reading level due to decoding words. This is not stopping them from being successful. They are determined to achieve academic excellence. I say this because they are not the best readers, but they try. Each day they strive to increase their reading level, because they do not want to be at a first or second grade reading level. My school makes the students feel welcome. Each teacher greet students at the door. We focus on building positive relationships with our students and I can say the behavior has really improved.
