My students are incredibly inquisitive, eager to please and have an enthusiastic desire to immerse themselves (albeit temporarily) in other cultures and gain a global perspective on the human condition. They welcome the idea of being able to discover the dangers of hubris from Greece and Mesopotamia but also the beauty of loyalty and devotion shown by humans in modern England and Germany. My students are not only learning the invaluable tools of navigating syntax and language, but are developing the critical thinking skills to evaluate and analyze the modern conundrums in our world from ancient, past cultures. They're developing their own place in the world as they vicariously follow the trek of heroes and heroines in each of their respective heroes' journeys. My students thrive on the diversity of the texts we cover throughout the school year and enjoy reading works beyond the borders of their native country that are translated into English.
