My 6th grade students tend to struggle in math. I would like to broaden their knowledge of technology and mathematics by incorporating both throughout this school year. If I had the opportunity to use the Cricut machine in the classroom, I can provide numerous objects that will enhance their understanding of basic math concepts such as multiplication and division as well as being able to bridge the gap between their understanding of fractions and decimals. Students can also utilize the machine during their Sea Level Trends project to determine measurements of beach erosion by using equations. Student can enhance their project boards using the digital stencils and various designs from the software downloaded to the laptop. Having a laptop would also be a great asset so that there is one central location in the class for students to work on projects. Although there are a few desktops in the class, they are outdated and requires service/maintenance very often. There are so many students without computer and internet access at home which requires them to visit community libraries regularly. If they are provided with the technology they need in the comfort of their classroom, students can collaborate with peers and successfully complete required assignments and projects. Both the Cricut and laptop would give students the opportunity to explore and investigate mathematics in so many ways. Students can explore spatial relations and magnitude, investigate dynamics, and broaden their conceptual understanding of measurement.
