In a school of approximately 450 students, we have access to about 100 Chromebooks. The Chromebooks are then shared between grade levels 2-5. In a single class of 20+ students, those students are given 6 Chromebooks to share per class. All students in a class are not able to have their own individual Chromebook to work on. Instead, chromebooks are mainly used during a small group rotation within the whole class. Having Chromebooks for everyone will allow my students to take ownership of their work and engage in assignments without having to take turns. Students work collaboratively during the school day, which is a great way to formulate hypothesis about specific concepts, but often times students are asked to do individual research and to come together in a group to contribute their findings. Our chromebooks are often pulled for grades that are testing so that that grade can have a full class set while testing occurs for days and even weeks, so at times we do not even have access to Chromebooks and must live without. In a society where technology reigns supreme in multiple facets of everyday life, these students need and deserve the opportunity to have access to necessary technology in order to get the most out of their education.
