  • Rain, Rain, Go Away!

    Funded Apr 2, 2025

Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The students were so excited when they each received a new umbrella. It was a rainbow of students since all umbrellas were a rainbow color! I had to put their names in a place where they could see because I would have many sad students. Even though our rainy season is almost over, we still have the scorching hot sunny days coming soon. They will also be able to use it for years to come. I am so grateful for your generous donation and a huge thank you from 21 big hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yokoyama

  • Books Take You Away!

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The Dog Man: Big Jim Begins is one of my students favorite book to read. I don't know why they love Dog Man but as long as they keep on reading, that's what is key to me. It's a beautiful sight to see my students using DEAR (drop everything and read) time to heart. They are absorbed by the books we received from Donorschoose and our classroom library is filled with culturally inclusive books. The Secret Garden is used with my literacy academy group and they can't get enough! Thank you so much!”

  • Save the Earth and Read!

    Funded Apr 9, 2025

Thank you so much for fully funding this project. The students are really loving the Dragon Master series. They are almost done with book 4 so they are looking forward to the others. The books on Saving the Earth is very impactful on what is happening to the world today. My students have been learning about ways they can save the earth and the buttons and bookmarks are a constant reminder to take care of our earth.

All my students love dim sum so what a better way than to read it in a book! We are a culturally inclusive classroom thanks to you!”

  • All Eyes on Me!

    Funded Apr 2, 2025

Woo hoo! Thank you so much for fully funding this project! I can't wait to tell the children about it. We have been working really hard on a lifecycle unit that they will be presenting soon and this could not have come at a better time! Wow! Thank you !”

  • Dragon Masters!

    Funded Mar 11, 2025

Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The kids were screaming when I said I had a surprise for them. I took each set out and they went crazy after the last series! They were so happy and my 2nd group said they couldn't wait until they were finished with their core lit book to start the first series of Dragon Masters. The puzzles will be worked on soon and then they will be broken apart into baggies so each group will have 50 pieces to put together. When they get better we will break up the pieces in groups of 100. They do this sometimes instead of going out to recess.”

    With gratitude,

  • Life Cycle of a Butterfly

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The kids love hands on activities and what a better way than to see the process from caterpillar to butterfly. Our language arts unit has a Lifecycle unit and the students learned about the process of not only the butterfly but the plant, chicken, and frog.

They loved that they each had their own caterpillar to take care of. This is a great way to also talk about responsibility and learning how to take care of a live insect. Some of the chrysalis opened before others so we let them go daily. You should see the smiles on their faces...priceless!”

  • Green Eggs and Ham?...Sure!

    Funded Mar 4, 2025

We had a successful event on Saturday! The parents came and we had a huge Read Across America celebration. We had books to read and arts and crafts. We had a reader's theater in addition to students writing poetry. The books were used to partner read during the day. Each child received a bookmark at the end of the day and a book to read. The smiles and laughter from everyone made it so worth it! You helped make literacy come alive at our school. Many of my students are struggling readers so these Dr. Seuss books were easy for most to read because they have rhyming words!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yokoyama

  • Nature's Beauty!

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The kids love science and we are learning about hydroponics and how it works. Their favorite part was choosing which plant they wanted. We have them in our classroom and will see how long it takes before we have to water them again. The self watering pots are outside with our bigger plants and the tomato and cilantro plant are in our garden beds. We can't wait to see the red tomatoes so we can share them and learn how easy it is to grow vegetables even if you don't have a yard.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yokoyama
