Funded May 9, 2024There are never enough ways to say Thank You so much for your support. However my students made sure I knew how to say it in their languages. These books are priceless in so many ways. We have finally just completed the first book in the series and they are incredibly excited to keep reading. Thank you for sparking the love of reading in a new class of kids.
As expected they are busily making their predictions on what they think will happen in this book as well as what will happen in the next book Saving Mr. Terupt. Their minds are racing with the possibilities and all you can hear around the room is whispers or highly contested discussions about a character or what they think will happen.
One of the funniest things that has happened from these book series is that the students have been able to see themselves in the characters in this book, Whether it is what they are going through right now or if it is how they look or act. The other day a student went up to another student and simply said can you stop being like Lexi, that was all they needed to say to their classmate and they immediately changed their behavior. They same can be said for other characters and actions as well. It is a secret code for them to be able to not only check in on each other and see how they are feeling (certain characters go through certain situations and they can relate), but also to keep each other accountable and in check. Who would have thought book characters would become a secret code.
The life lessons and how the students will react to these books is always amazing me. With each new book and each new class I can see students falling in love with a book and it's characters. They are taking lessons learned in these books and challenging thoughts and expectations about things. Finally they are bonding and connection on a whole new level with being able to share common life and growing issues without having to be afraid or even saying how they relate. This would not have been possible without these books and your support.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Therriault
