Read aloud is one of the most important things we as educators and parents can do with students. It builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluency, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about. Read aloud also helps students to build background knowledge, have discussions, and make real world connections. Reading books aloud helps stimulates children imagination and expands their understanding of the world. Students develops comprehension, robust vocabulary and critical thinking skills. In addition, through discussions it helps students develop oral language and deeper understanding.
