Art Supplies For The Underprivileged: A Social Justice
Funded Dec 25, 2010Thank you for your donation! My students have been so excited to get their hands on these art materials!
They available for use in the class Art Center, where students can create and display art of their own invention. The materials are also being used in teacher-guided art lessons relating to subject matter taught in class.
We live in a world where our youth are simply not provided enough quality resources to shine; the materials that you have generously donated are making the dream of a bright future come true. These children will live in a more socially just world. Thank you.”

Funded Dec 15, 2010This is an outstanding collection of books.
As you know, books are the foundation for life-long learning and many children in today's public schools simply do not have adequate access. It is my duty as a teacher to make sure that the children in my care will leave my classroom in love with learning. These books will go a long way towards reaching that goal. Thank you for your generosity.
I would like to mention one book in particular that has had great impact in the classroom: Gulls, Gulls, Gulls, by Gail Gibbons - a science book that teaches various facts about seagulls. Where we live there are many seagulls, and the kids are thrilled to be able to witness in real life behaviors that they learned about in the book.
You know, another book that has also fascinated the kids is the book about crows. Just today on the playground I saw a few of my kids talking to a crow that was perched in a tree. They had learned from the book that crows sometimes imitate human voices and they were trying to get the crow to do just that. Thanks!
There are some great books here. ”

Funded Jan 7, 2011Thank you so much for this wonderful donation. The kids are thrilled to be able to play along to songs that we sing together, and to make their own rhythms as they jam with each other.
This is an outstanding collection of musical instruments and will be used to great advantage in my classroom for many years to come. As you know, music is an oft neglected area of the elementary curriculum, but a big part of what it is to be human. It is our duty as citizens to ensure that our children are given opportunities to develop into well-rounded human beings. These instruments will go a long way towards meeting that need.
Thanks again,”

A Huge Request: Computers for Every Classroom
Funded Oct 7, 2010Thank you for this phenomenal donation to our school. Our students now have the technology that they deserve and require to be global citizens.
The computers are now up and running in all classrooms from grades one through five. The kids are thrilled, as you can well imagine. These computers are lightning fast and look great. Students who did not previously have access to decent computers before now have cutting edge top-of-the-line computers to use and enjoy.
Thank you again.”

Books on Tape for English Language Learners
Funded Nov 11, 2010Thank you for your donation of audio books to our classroom. The kids simply love to cozy up in the listening center and read along to the books and CDs you sent us. As you probably know, English Language Learners benefit tremendously from having access to audio renditions of children's literature. They read and re-read the books, accumulating language as they go. Native speakers of English benefit as well.
The selection of books you gave us is an excellent one. The books are rich in language and are also age appropriate in content. Further, the Dr. Seuss books will help the kids learn to read.
Thank you so much.”

Funded Aug 11, 2010Thank you for your donation of software to our classroom. Perhaps you've already seen the pictures I posted. Soon I will be sending the letters - once they are collected and complete.
The kids have been using the Math Blaster software twice a week to practice math basics, such as addition and subtraction, attributes, patterning, and counting larger numbers. The games are fun and engaging, and most importantly, are helping students to practice skills already taught in class.
Thank you.”

Funded Aug 30, 2010Thank you for all of your generous contributions to our classroom. We received the computer last week and the kids helped to set it up. The excitement was palpable. Most of these children do not have a computer at home. The only place where they have access to the internet is here at school. All of my students have already had several opportunities to use the computer here in the classroom. They are enjoying some of the programs the computer came with, and they are of course enjoying the fast speed while using the various flash-based websites I've shown them.
Thank you once again.”

A Scanner with Many Uses
Funded Aug 28, 2010Thank you for your generous donation! My classroom is gradually acquiring the basic twenty first century functionality that every classroom ought to have.
The scanner is is fantastic and has already been used. Students have scanned their own work - it's so easy with a one-touch scanning capability. All scans are saved automatically to the same place in the form of a thumbnail, so students can easy access their own work just by looking for it.
And of course I've been using it as well for simple tasks that just save time. Instead of walking across campus and possibly waiting in line for a single copy, I can simple scan it and print it.
Thanks!”

Funded Aug 30, 2010Thank you so much! As you know, books for beginning readers are essential! All of the books included in your donation are excellent.
They love Fill a Bucket: A Guide to Daily Happiness for the Young Child by Carol McCloud. Students are reading and re-reading the book, and its ideas keep coming up in discussions. You've done a wonderful thing.I read the book Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel to teach about school rules and the children loved it as well. It's very funny and was quite useful in this context.
The other books in the selection are also great and I wait with anticipation to use them.
Your generosity will help my students learn to read. Plain and simple. Kids are more engaged with books in their hands. Your donation will make a real difference”

Little Engineers
Funded Aug 30, 2010Thank you so much for your donation of construction kits to our classroom.
The kids have been getting great enjoyment from the Marbulous and Wedgits kits that arrived two weeks ago. We received the KNEX kits this week and the kids are overwhelmed with enthusiasm. I personally wish that I had such fantastic building materials when I was a kid.
I believe these kits will develop planning and problem solving abilities, as well as math skills and interpersonal cooperation. The kids are obviously benefiting already. The materials are designed to be used in sequence and will certainly be used all year.
The kids are so excited about your gift. Thank you.”
