  • K'nex Construction Materials for Kindergarten Math and Engineering

    Funded Nov 8, 2023

I can't wait to receive these K'NEX materials in the mail and get into them! These kits will be used year after year, giving many many children the opportunity to exercise their imaginations through their hands. The kids will be thrilled.

It is always a great pleasure for me to see students engaged in lessons that have real meaning for them. What you have provided will form an important part of a meaningful math and science curriculum.

Your donation will make a real difference. Thanks.”

  • Math Materials for Kindergartners: A Social Justice

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom last year. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for helping me to teach my students. I would also like to extend an apology for being so late in writing this thank you note. I had to deal with a very complicated and chaotic family issue this year which left many tasks left undone. The supplies you helped me obtain went far in helping my students learn what I taught. These linking cubes help to teach early concepts in numeracy, geometry, patterning and creative play. They are an essential tool used in elementary classrooms for hands-on learning. Really, your gift has been critical and, happily, are now being used this year and will be in future years, to teach early math concepts to 4 and 5 year olds.”

  • Art Supplies for Creative Kindergartners

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom last year. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for helping me to teach my students. I would also like to extend an apology for being so late in writing this thank you note. I had to deal with a very complicated and chaotic family issue this year which left many tasks left undone. The supplies you helped me obtain went far in helping my students learn what I taught. The watercolors were used extensively, nearly on a daily basis, and the fancy consturction paper was use both for collage and as props for decorative doll play. And of course all of the other supplies were used to good advantage. Thank you so much.”

  • Pattern Blocks for Curious Kindergartners

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this project! I have had so many projects funded through DonorsChoose over the years and I am consistently amazed at the generosity of people who donate to teachers through this organization.

These developmentally appropriate wooden pattern blocks are an essential part of the math and creative play program I run in my kindergarten and pre-k classroom. Much is learned as the children simply play with these blocks - balance, length, patterns, problem solving, imaginative play, story-telling.... Much math is integrated into their play - as they build the children count and measure and make patterns etc... I have many lessons that integrate well with pattern blocks. Children create mandalas for example, giving the kids a strong foundation in shapes, symmetry, measurement and numeracy.

It is all hands on and a whole lot of fun! Photos coming soon!

Thank you again for this wonderful donation.”

  • Geoboards for Curious Kindergarteners

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

    Thank you for your donation!

It is critically important that children be given access to high quality hands-on materials for exploring mathematics. Sadly, many children do not have adequate access. This is particularly true for children who belong to cultural groups with histories of oppression. The children in my classroom have benefited greatly from your generosity.

Geoboards are useful for learning geometry as well as for numeracy, and they are useful for helping young children discover the relationships that arise between number, shape, and pattern. Geoboards are terrific for teaching geometry, symmetry, and counting; and are very good for developing fine motor control. These materials have already and will continue to give my students many opportunities to expand and develop their mathematical thinking, and to have fun at the same time.

These materials are good quality and will last for years. Thanks! Photos coming soon!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Linley

  • Cuisenaire Rods to Help Teach Math Concepts to Kindergartners

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your donation of these mathematics materials to our transitional kindergarten (pre-k) and kindergarten classroom!

My kindergartners have been using the Cuisenaire Rods for many weeks and continue to play and learn with great enthusism. They have made some amazing constructions and are very appreciative of your donation. They children have mostly been using the block for free exploration in conjunction with little plastic dolls. They use the blocks to set the stage for creative play: a zoo, a supermarket, a park, a house etc... They build walls and building and fences etc.... They also using the rods to discover and design different patterns - two rod lengths repeated over and over make a fence for example. Story-telling and inventive play are the themes here. We also use the blocks for what they are primarily intended for - modelling addition sentences, finding equivalencies, measurement....

Your gift is greatly appreciated. Photos to be uploaded soon!

    Thank you.”

  • Cuisenaire Rods for Incoming Kindergarteners to Use at Home

    Funded Sep 24, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation. I apologize for having taken so long to write this thank you note.Your donation has made an enormous difference in the quality of the math instruction that I have been able to give to my students this year. All class time this year has so far been virtual. I sent the CUISENAIRE RODS home in September and the children have been using them ever since to model concepts in geometry as well as numeracy.

Photos have been somewhat difficult to obtain this year; however, I just submitted photos to a new slideshow feature that DonorsChoose has introduced recently. It should come in your email. The photos might give you some idea of what we have been doing with your donation.

I want you to know that your donation has made a HUGE and BENEFICIAL contribution to my students' education this year. Thank you.”

  • Blocks in Kindergarten: The Rudiments of Applied Science

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

Thank you so much for funding this project! I have had so many projects funded through DonorsChoose over the years and I am consistently amazed at the generosity of people who donate to teachers through this organization. Sometimes I wonder why people continue to donate to my classroom, given that I have had so many projects funded, Well, the fact is supplies need to be refurbished. New ideas need to come to fruition. Kids need more and more and more... as everybody knows.”

Approximately 60 percent of the students at our school are Latino and about 40 percent are African American. Many children are of mixed heritage. After over 20 years working in Los Angeles Unified School District I have accepted a teaching position at a new charter school in South Central Los Angeles. Wherever I work I always have many talented children in my classes, and I am always looking to expand the educational program I deliver. Since this is a new school I must begin again to collect materials to ensure that my students receive the best education I am capable of providing. You will be seeing many Donors Choose projects in the years to come posted here for your perusal. Thank you for listening!
