  • Learn From Home, Teach From Home Resources

    Funded Sep 30, 2020

I am teaching completely online with my kindergarten students. My online classroom is at my house in an extra room I was able to make into a teaching space. In order to teach effectively, I needed a vertical teaching space. This donation transformed my ability to teach so the children can see the material similar to how it would be in a school classroom.

The white board I use for demonstrating both reading and writing. I am able to use magnetic objects I previously had to show addition and subtraction problems. Because the white board is magnetic, I am able to show math lessons very similar to how I would at school. The bulletin board shows the daily calendar, weather and other aspects of keeping track of time. During reading and writing lessons, I can write words on the board or place words in the magnetic tray to present words.

The table top easel is also used daily. It allows me to be on camera and still show my lessons at a size the children can read the words or math problems.

I am so grateful for your generous donation to support my classroom and my kindergarten students. They are able to have a much better daily school experience with the addition of these resources.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bacon

  • Adjustable Sized Headphones for Smaller People

    Funded Dec 10, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation to support my classroom of learners expanding their technology skills. I have found students much more engaged in their learning and game progress with the comfort of the headphones. With the new headphones, students are able to listen easily to the stories and directions to their games without hurting their ears.

The headphones themselves, are very good quality, and for kindergarteners, easy to keep the cord from getting tangled and in knots. The students are able to help pass them out and put away with ease, making my job easier. I am so pleased with this donation and look forward to the many number of students and classes that will benefit from using them in the future.

Thank you again for your generosity and kindness to support my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bacon

  • Comfy, Cozy, Classroom Library

    Funded Oct 13, 2019

The items from this project have transformed my classroom of kindergarteners from squirreling around on a rug, bugging each other and staring off, into interested readers. They are now focused and trying their best to engage in books.

For a kindergartener who is still learning to read and understand how books work, they need a space like this to be cozy in and really relax with a book. Before this project, students would sit on the big classroom rug to try and read. It is a big space with no boundaries or places to lean against. Mostly, this time looked like kids whispering to their neighbors, constant switching of books and difficulty for them to focus on a book.

This new library corner is outstanding! It is a sectioned off corner in the classroom with three shelves of books to choose from. Students select the 5 or 6 books they want to look at. They can then find a bench, chair, laundry basket or just sit on the rug. The children are being very respectful to stay in one space and really engage in their books. There has been a transformation in their desire to read just from the space changing. They really just want to read so I rarely need to remind them to anymore. It has amazed me to see this impact of a cozy space to read with the same group of students from an open unstructured space into this beautiful library reading area.

I am hopeful with the influence of the love of reading at a young age, that these students, and future students in my classroom, will become lifelong readers with a deep love of reading. Thank you for your generous donation and support to education. Without your support, experiences like this wouldn't happen. I am very grateful for your support to my kindergarten class with this project.”

    With gratitude,

  • STEM Science Kits Aligned with Common Core for Kindergarten Students

    Funded Nov 17, 2016

Four large boxes were delivered to the classroom and the students eyes became so large and excited. They had no idea what was in store for them. As we unpacked the boxes and saw the amazing activities and games to learn science from, the students became even more excited. I gave a brief description of each box and we selected three to start working with.

The ramps and ball experiment is likely the favorite so far. Students worked in groups of 3 to build a ramp for the ball to travel. They learned that the ramp has to have one end higher than the other and were creative at using the chairs to help support the ramp. The students worked together, shared ideas, and helped each other to build amazing ramps. This activity has become part of our daily discovery centers where students get to choose science, social studies or art based free choice activities.

Students also experimented with the house building center. Students could build 3-D buildings and structures. They had to snap together the pieces and learn how to support bottom pieces to support the top of their structures. I was impressed with the creativity of the architecture. Students wanted to make a neighborhood with their buildings.

The third thing we have explored is the vehicle building center. Students had to construct vehicles that had a base and place for the wheels. Some experimented with constructing a two wheeled vehicle and discovered why that is harder to balance. I love seeing the trial and error, trying new ideas to make things work. Both these activities also are part of our daily science exploration time.

These activities, and the many more we have yet to get to, are so wonderful in our classroom. The students have already learned valuable lessons through the hands-on opportunity with these materials. The students, and myself, look forward to learning from the many other materials we have still to open. Your generosity to support our classroom is invaluable and is so appreciated. Thank you for your support and kindness to help my kindergarteners with science hands-on learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bacon

My students come from a poverty neighborhood. The entire school receives free breakfast and lunch. They are sweet, kind and lovable. They have a strong desire to learn and overcome their home environment struggles to be intelligent and smart individuals. They have the desire to dream big, to do more than the next. The school as a whole has this mindset. We all want to see the good in others and learn just as much as anyone else, despite where we live.
