Students come to my room with a wide range of abilities and different learning disabilities. In third and fourth grade, students are introduced to a number of new, abstract math concepts like subtracting across zeros, multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers, and comparing and adding/subtracting fractions. Third and fourth grade are also the first years my students will face state testing. While many of my students come to me behind grade level, I'm determined to help address deficits in their learning while also presenting grade-level material to them in an accessible way. Hands on math activities, visual aids, and math games will help my kids engage with math in a new and fun way. Colorful base ten magnets will help me demonstrate the process of regrouping. Colorful fraction magnets will help me demonstrate fraction equivalency and comparing fractions while colorful fraction tiles will help students do the same in a hands-on manner. Calculators will help me provide student accomodations. Math games will not only be productive fun for students, but will allow me to engage a group of students while working 1-1 with a student who needs extra remediation.
