A Color Printer to Create Eye-Catching Reading Resources
Funded Aug 2, 2023School has been in session for a mere two and a half months and the color printer you so generously provided my classroom has been in near constant use! I've used the printer to to provide color photos of the Brooklyn neighborhood where the novel we are reading takes place as part of an introductory exercise, to print colorful handouts to guide students in a characterization analysis activity, for yearbook committee and drama club flyers, and for a viewing guide while we watch the movie version of Pride and Prejudice. Future plans include images for a timeline of Native American history before we read a novel by Sherman Alexie and a colorful series of handouts for a unit on banned books. None of this would have been possible without your much-needed donation.
Thank you for your help in providing an engaging classroom experience for my English language learners and your dedication to an equitable educational access for all.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jessica
This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 8 other donors.Student-Created College Fair
Funded Nov 8, 2022Thank you for your support for the 11th grade Student-Run College Fair. Students researched colleges and then prepared presentations using the trifold boards, markers, and brightly colored stock paper provided through your generous support. Students then held their own college fair where they were able to visit each other's presentations and learned about the variety of post-high school educational opportunities available to them. Students were proud of the vibrant and eye-catching presentations they were able to create with the materials your support made possible. Through this project, students not only learned about colleges they might apply to after graduation, but also critical background knowledge about colleges and the application process that is often a mystery for immigrant and first-generation college-bound students. Armed with concrete ideas about what they might do after they graduate from high school, our 11th graders will now start preparing their college lists and their application materials so they are ready to begin applying to schools in the fall of next year.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jessica
