A simple jump rope will make the world of difference for each of my K-2 students during remote learning! This is especially true since over half of our students are from low income households. In Physical Education class, jumping rope improves coordination, improves fitness AND is fun! It is also something that students can practice on their own, and a rope is small enough to carry with them wherever they go. Jump ropes will be a universal tool that supports remote instruction and will also be used for a wide variety of cross curricular activities! Not only will students develop skills that are essential in Physical Education class, they will also be able to use their ropes to practice locomotor skills like jumping, hopping and leaping over the rope; they will practice galloping, marching and skipping around the rope too. They will be able to use their rope to practice letter identification and make their rope into the shape of letters! Students will be able to make their rope into different shapes to reinforce what triangles, circles, squares, and rectangles look like! They will also be able to use their ropes as targets while at home, and they will be able to practice tossing objects - like a rolled-up pair of socks - into their target using good form! Since the ropes are beaded, students will be able to practice counting and skip counting! Entire families will be able to enjoy activity time together by playing "snake in the grass" or twirling the rope for their K-2 students! Yes, a simple jump rope will bring much joy and learning into the homes of each of my K - 2 students. Joy is something each student really needs during these challenging times.
