Technology in the Classroom
Funded Oct 12, 2017My students have been able to do so much with the new laptops. They were able to research various topics to write research reports on Westward Expansion. With these laptops, they were able to enjoy videos on-line that were related to Westward Expansion. They were also able to keep up with the reading program at our school. With this reading program they are to read Accelerated Reader books and take the corresponding quiz for each book. Students were also able to do interactive math activities on Dreambox.com. Students are also able to read books at their instructional level on the RAZ kids website.
The students in my class are very eager to use the computers as it is a novelty. It allows them to do something different from using their books or worksheets. What is most exciting is that there are now 8 total laptops instead on 4. So now, more students have the opportunity to have a turn on the computer.
Practically every student has warmed to this new technology. Many of my students do not have a computer at home, or if they do, they don't have internet access. Students really have shown excitement and appreciation for these new laptops.”

Technology in the Classroom
Funded Oct 13, 2016Thank you so much to those that donated. I'm very excited to be able to use the tablet in many different ways in my class. I also know that my students will be thrilled and eager to use it. Having this tool in my class will motivate my students to enhance their learning by researching topics online, completing online math and reading activities, and using it to publish their writing. I can't wait to get started!”

Collaborative Carpet
Funded Dec 19, 2014My students' reaction to our brand new carpet was priceless. They were definitely thankful. They were excited to sit on it, rather than our tiled floors, and commented on how clean and bright it was. They also started pointing out the different states that were part of the colorful map of the United States.
The carpet is used several times a day in different ways. For math, the students sit on the carpet to listen to the new concept of the day. Students are up close to the teacher and have less distractions, such as, their items in their desks. Students also use it during reading time. They choose a book from our classroom library and sit on the carpet to enjoy that reading time. Student also use it to meet with a partner to share their writing or help each other with a math concept. Any time that I need my students' full, undivided attention I have the students sit on the carpet, which we call the "Gathering Area."
Having a Gathering Area has allowed my students to stay more focused when being introduced to a new concept. It allows them to think about what the teacher is saying and then be able to turn to their nearby classmates to discuss their learning. Our school has just implemented a new program, Writers Workshop, which calls for students to meet in a gathering area to grasp new concepts and have discussions with their classmates. Students enjoy coming together with their classmates to work collaboratively to conquer new concepts.”
