My class is full of high energy students that come from low income families. They crave attention, a sense of belonging, and structure. What they lack at home they look for at school. My school uses tables in every classroom, instead of desks, so keeping students organized is a struggle. Right now, we are using milk crates as cubbies that they have to walk around the room to access. They also respond more with hands-on lessons, than the traditional paper and pencil. These students come from homes with no personal reading books, but they all have smart phones, tablets, and gaming systems. They need items in their hands to keep them engaged and for the concepts to relate to their world. Not only does my school focus on college readiness, they also try to implement character development. We try to teach the students character traits to help them with social skills and emotional understanding of others. We want them to be life-long learners and active members of their communities
