  • Mrs. Emler's Mathematicians

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

My students are so excited about our new math materials in the classroom. We needed the math materials and now we are able to properly use them to target instruction for small group learning and to spiral needed lessons that are grade level applicable. Many are in a game format that helps encourage and excite enthusiasm for learning. I am so happy that I can offer them resources that they would not have before. I was limited in materials because I had previously taught younger grade levels. Now I can offer a wider selection of math materials that allows students to sample various instruction models that they might not have encountered previously. Before they had to share with the entire school campus and now they have opportunities within the classroom. I feel so fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity of offering materials that will spark their interests. This is my first year teaching second grade math and I have witnessed the steady progression of my students mathematical interests.”

I service forty second-graders and some of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. Their imaginations will serve as a powerful tool that will help bring out their inquisitive and curious personalities. Most importantly, my students will be given the opportunity to be more knowledgeable and familiar with technology integration. My learners are digital natives who interpret and develop technology skills with much ease. They learn better through discovery than simply being told information. They are curious and are always in search for answers. As their reading teacher, I use guided reading and a balanced literacy program to help develop their academic interests. This will afford them the opportunity to delve more fully into the content area of different stories and build their background knowledge while pursuing areas of interest to them.
