Boarded up houses line the streets where our students live. Churches are being torn down, and urban gardens are being built upon the parking lots of factories once filled with workers' cars. These young people never knew their city when it was a major hub of industry and home of the wealthiest Americans, but they can see the remnants in it's elegant architecture, in the proud legacy of it's cultural institutions, and in the hubris of it's brownfields. They are children of parents who still struggle to make it in a place most people gave up on. Almost all of our students live below the poverty line, but they have inherited a hard-scrabble toughness that will help them face tomorrows' inevitable challenges. Our high school is an industrial trade school with a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) curriculum. The students specialize in technologies related to I.T., construction, transportation, and manufacturing. They are learning the trades to build America's future.
