  • A Library of Their Own

    Funded Feb 28, 2009

Thank you all so much for donating to our classroom library project. It is because of people like you that students who are less fortunate may have the option to read books that interest them. We are so appreciative.

As I pulled each book out of the box, the looks on their faces were priceless. Several of them mentioned how nice it was that people would actually donate money to their classroom because they usually don't have anything nice. Not only that, but they also mentioned that they weren't used to having people who they don't know "be nice and donate money."

Many of the books that you made able for us to have appeal to the male students. They range from topics dealing with WWII to racing dirt bikes. We all know that typically male students lag behind in reading, and I am so thankful that you chose to donate to our project because it will definitely help improve their literacy skills.

Again, thank you. It is people like you who make great things happen!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. T.

  • To Read or Not to Read? Now That is the Question!

    Funded Feb 19, 2009

I am so grateful for your donation. You don't know how much it means to me and my students! We now have a classroom set of books that we can use for our own, and they can better understand Hamlet while actually enjoying the play.

My students were not excited at all at the thought of having to read Hamlet. In the past they haven't had a good experience with Shapespeare and had a difficult time appreciating his works. Fortunately they were able to understand, appreciate, and even act the play!

Another obstacle that was standing in their way was the fact that we would have to share the set of books that belonged to the English department with other classes. That would mean rushing through the unit and not being able to focus and devote time to it like we should.

Thank you for your donation. It is because of people like you that we can provide a better education for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. T.

  • The Coexistence of Good and Evil: To Kill A Mockingbird

    Funded Nov 24, 2008

Thank you so much for your donation to our project. The students are so excited about reading To Kill a Mockingbird because they know it is something they can relate to. So many of them are turned against literature because they feel that they are made to read. I have no doubt that they will enjoy reading To Kill a Mockingbird and will be able to take valuable lessons from the book. Without your donation, our classroom would not be able to have a complete set of our own. We're excited!

    Thank You,

    Ms. ”

    With gratitude,

I teach junior English in a community which has moderate poverty. The students in my classroom have varying diversities. I don't mean diverse in race, but they are diverse in learning styles, family values, and socioeconomic status. Having a brand new set of books that is just for them would make them ecstatic!
