Wanted: Lifelong Readers
Funded Sep 3, 2021Thank you for supporting my students! The books you donated has caused so much excitement in our classroom! Students have found books and series that they love to read. We had book auctions to see who would get to read the new books first. Students were so excited to hear the blurb summary on the back of the book and make bids to see who got to read it first.
Students have went on to our school library to find other books in the same series to continue reading. Thank you for helping to create excitement around reading and providing my students will high interest books to read this year!”

Wanted: Lifelong Readers
Funded Oct 17, 2019Thank you for supporting my classroom and helping to provide books for students to fall in love with. It has been my goal this year to provide students with daily opportunities to read books of their choosing. I have students who are so proud of themselves for finishing chapter books and being able to recommend books to their classmates. It puts such a huge smile on my face when I say "Get your book boxes for read to self time" and kids who I would have never expected give a quiet "yes!" cheer with an excited arm gesture.
Read to Self time is a quiet time where students are allowed to find a comfy spot in our classroom. We talk about improving our stamina and finding books that we are interested in. They have gotten so much better at these things!
Some of their favorites have been Dog Man, Princess Pulverizer, and Lulu and the Brontosaurus. They loved Lulu so much that they went to our library looking for the other books in that series.
Thank you again for your support and helping to make this possible in my classroom!”

Making Math Hands-On!
Funded May 14, 2019Thank you for helping us get the materials we needed to be successful in math this year. These materials have helped make our math activities hands on! The counters have helped students with multiplication and division. They can make equal groups to solve their problems, and it helps them understand what the equation means. The array boards have been a great resource for teaching the distributive property with multiplication. They can make a large array, and then divide it into smaller arrays on their boards. The students love to use these resources on their activities and on tests. We have also enjoyed using the clocks to tell time to the nearest minute. Thank you for helping us get these materials, they have made a huge difference for my students!”

Creating a Love for Reading!
Funded May 13, 2019Thank you for helping to stock our classroom with grade level appropriate fiction books! My students have been so excited to read new series! These new books have allowed us to have discussions about fiction genres and good-fit books for each student. One of my students loves reading The Wild Robot and really enjoys having book talks about what she is reading about in it. Most of my boys have gained a love for Origami Yoda and many are reading it together. Thank you for helping us create a classroom environment where reading is enjoyable and fun! My students are building their reading stamina while enjoying books of their own choosing. They love sharing their reading with each other and have requested time to talk about what they have read with their classmates. We couldn't have done it without your help in providing us with a variety of books! Thank you!”

Funded May 30, 2019Thank you for helping us stock our classroom library with grade level appropriate non-fiction books! My students are really enjoying learning new facts about famous people, animals, and their world. They are allowing us to talk more about non-fiction genres and the things we can learn as we read them! One student loves reading the autobiographies and really enjoys learning about people from the past. Another was obsessed with the Gross but True book about gross facts about animals and people. I walked by him reading one day and heard him reading "poop pellets..." I had to stop and listen more... he was really into reading about owl poop pellets! I love when my students want to stop and share their reading with me and other classmates! I can tell that we are building a classroom environment where reading is fun and enjoyable! Thank you for helping to make that possible!”

Wanted: Headphones!
Funded Jan 1, 2019These headphones have made a world of difference in our classroom! Students are able to quickly get logged into our computer programs and not worry about finding their own headphones, borrowing someone else's, or figuring out which port to plug them into. They are also much more comfortable and easier to wear than our old classroom pair which were missing the foam cushions that sit on their ears. Students can work comfortably now! They have also learned to be responsible for these headphones and treat them with care. These headphones have really been a helpful addition to our classroom!”

Dry Erase Boards - Practice, Share, Erase!
Funded Sep 23, 2018My students love these whiteboards. They use them in all areas almost every single day. They complete math problems, write sentences, and respond to reading on these boards. They also get to share their work and provide each other with feedback.
They really enjoy writing on them, and it allows us to practice new skills as a class. I can quickly assess who is mastering skills and who needs more support based on the work they are completing on these dry erase boards. It also takes away the stress of making a mistake! Just wipe and try again!
We love our new boards, and we are so grateful for everyone who supported our classroom!”

Creating Mathematicians With Manipulatives!
Funded Aug 8, 2017Your donation has been so helpful in our math class! The math manipulatives have made teaching small groups and creating centers so much easier. The kids love the magnetic tens frames. They are so helpful when we have number talks and allow students to show their thinking. They also love the dice. We play so many math games using these, and sometimes just mix it up by letting the kids roll their own numbers for math problems. The fact family boards have made it so easy to practice fact families in our small groups. We used the colored tiles to create hundreds chart puzzles where students can get hands on and put together their pieces while thinking about one/ten more and less. Overall, these supplies have made math more hands on and fun! The kids love getting their hands on these new materials and have been so excited to use them. They thought it was so cool that strangers who do not even know them would give their own money to help them learn. Thank you so much for believing in education!”

Funded Jul 31, 2017Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. My students were so excited to get new supplies for the classroom. They were even more excited when they found out people who did not even know them gave us money to buy them those supplies. They have loved using the colored pens for editing their writing with their buddies and using them as "teacher pens" to score their work. They also love using the soft cushions all throughout the day, whether they are reading, working on an assignment, or working with a friend, they are able to do that comfortably in the floor. They are also so excited when they are able to use the colored writing paper. It really has made writing more exciting for them and a good motivation to encourage them to make it to the publishing stage of writing. Thank you for believing in education and supporting my students!”

Funded Aug 27, 2016My students use the sheet protectors everyday in reading and math. We have created reading binders where we store all of our important writing posters. We also keep our reading texts in it as well. The sheet protectors allow us to mark on the texts so we can underline or circle important evidence when answering questions about a text. In math we use these for math games and resources such as hundreds charts. They allow the students to reuse the materials day after day.
Our kids thought it was Christmas when we told them how many sheet protectors we had received. They couldn't believe that people gave us money, so we could have these materials in our classroom. They were so excited to have their own binders and reusable materials.
Currently, we are working on multiplication in math. I am creating a lot of multiplication games for the students to play as warm up and for fluency practice. We want the kids to learn multiplication without the old fashioned drill and kill routine. We want them to learn them naturally and in an engaging way.”
