When we first began school, we tried online libraries, but the licenses were expensive and the free titles were not high-interest for my middle school students. Even given an online library, my students consistently choose to read a paperback over reading on the iPad! I have chosen each of these books with my students in mind. What do they dream about? What kind of stories engages them? What books would they recommend to me? With these titles, my students can choose a variety of books that interest them and allow them to read at various levels within the classroom. Studies show that the best way to increase comprehension, vocabulary, and analysis is to read more. Just like these students practice their instruments, rehearse scenes, or prepare choreography for dance in order to improve their performance skills, students need to read more in order to improve their reading abilities. Strong readers practice daily. These books will help me create that emphasis and environment for my students so that they continue to grow as readers.
