  • Protect Our STEAM Materials

    Funded Oct 29, 2024

The change to my classroom layout with these shelves has been huge! I have had multiple students commenting "something is very different here". We will work on naming our observations. All jokes aside having these open shelves on wheels to store my materials has been a vast improvement.

What I appreciate most about the open shelves is being able to see everything I need at once. Teaching grades K-5 I have a variety of materials. I need to be able to quickly swap them out between grade levels and I can do so much easier now. Also sometimes we are using water in my classroom and these shelves make it easy for items to dry.

Your donation has made a huge improvement on my day to day classroom life.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dusch

  • Bring Our Bookshelves to Life

    Funded Sep 28, 2014

My students were overjoyed to receive the books that your donation supplied us with. Many favorites were included in my choices, which have truly sparked their interest during independent reading. I loved looking around the room and seeing them captivated by the classics that I grew up with, as well as new and amazing stories.

I chose a variety of books that have been geared to meet my students needs in all subjects. We have been using many of the resources as research for our non-fiction writing piece on oceans. Some of my students have been struggling in math, they enjoyed the strategy books that have made multiplication fun! All of the novels have supplemented our poor classroom library, and have made choosing a book difficult because there are so many.

Your support has kept twenty young minds active these past few months and will continue to do so for many years to come. Having a range of options to satisfy a readers appetite is a key point in developing young readers interest.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dusch

I am a first year teacher at a Title 1 school, where most students receive a free lunch. The majority of my students live in apartment complexes and trailer parks near school and do not speak English at home. My school is home to roughly 1,000 learners. The community is safe, encouraging, and collaborative. The school library is large and inviting. To accommodate the large population, students are only able to visit the library every two weeks for fifteen minutes. This gives them roughly five minutes to browse and the remaining time is spent checking out. I don't feel this is an adequate amount of time spent in the company of books! My students are hungry for knowledge. They enjoy researching on ipads, working with manipulatives, reading with a classmate, and listening to stories. The pages of their writers notebooks are filling with ideas and stories. They are excited to participate, discuss, and share ideas. They are struggling with reading and need support.
