  • Define That Space - A Circle Time Project

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

Thank you so much for donating and helping to support our classroom with these new materials. The students were so surprised to see the new rug in our Circle Time area when walking into the classroom. It was the subject of most conversations for about two weeks after it arrived. It has also helped greatly with providing a defined space for Circle Time. The students use it as a visual to recognize where they need to be seated during Circle Time.

The seat cushions were also a great addition to Circle Time. The students are able to walk up to the bookshelf where they are stored, grab a handle, and plop it down on the rug to sit upon. As stated above, the rug was used to define the Circle Time space, but the seat cushions define personal space. My students are no longer pushing and shoving to get a "good" spot at Circle Time and can easily get up to take turns during movement activities and the return to their seat without a problem.

Your support has made our daily Circle Time routines run more smoothly. This has allowed me to add in more engaging activities and, more importantly, give the students more learning time!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dozier

  • Sensory for SPICE

    Funded Dec 1, 2015

Thank you all for donating and helping to provide sensory materials for my students. I was thrilled to be able to use new resources to integrate more sensory strategies into our daily classroom routine. With the new supplies, I have had the opportunity to teach my students how to appropriately self-regulate emotional needs, take more controlled sensory movement breaks, and how to use these approaches on their own outside of my classroom.

Two of my students in particular have shown a huge interest in the Sensa-Rock. Although all students have enjoyed using it, these two specific students have enjoyed this sensory tool the most. It is the very first activity that they choose to do when entering the classroom each day. The resistance tunnel was also a hit with the students. They enjoy the tight, dark space that they get to experience while crawling through it. These were great materials to help release energy and ground my students before having to sit quietly for academic work.

Thank you again for all of the support. I would not have been able to create a sensory enriched space in my classroom without your help. You all are greatly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dozier

  • Playing Takes Practice

    Funded Dec 1, 2015

Thank you all for donating and helping to provide new toys and play materials for my students. I was thrilled to be able to share these exciting resources with my students to continue developing their play skills and expand their imaginations.

During the past few months, I have seen my students grow exponentially. They have had the opportunity to work on sharing, turn taking, and imaginative play. Before receiving the new toys and play materials, many of my students would play with only one or two toys. Now, these students are choosing a wide variety of materials to play with throughout the day. One student in particular loved playing with only cars, but after experiencing the thrill of getting new toys, he plays with the trucks, train, airplane, helicopter, and dollhouse regularly. Another student decided that he was going to make tea for everyone using the new tea set. That was the first time we had seen him play with the dramatic play materials and use his imagination to engage others.

It has been absolutely amazing to see what a difference has been made in my classroom with your support. My students have benefited greatly and I can't thank you all enough!”

    With gratitude,

  • Puzzles for Playful Preschoolers

    Funded Mar 20, 2015

I would like to start off by thanking everyone again for supporting and donating to this project. It has made such an impact on my students!

Each day, my students complete center rotations. During these rotations, the students complete individual work, therapy work, and one-on-one work with me. Towards the middle of the school year, the students began to lose motivation to complete their individual work or even transition to the individual work stations. They were bored with having to do the same puzzles week after week.

After receiving all of the new puzzles, that all of you so graciously helped provide, my students were ecstatic! I had all of the puzzles spread out on the table so that they would be the first things my students saw when they walked in the classroom. Their eyes lit up as they ran to the table to investigate the new, vibrantly colored materials. There were puzzles for all different academic levels and subjects, which was perfect for each one of my students.

My students now enjoy going to their individual work centers and are excited to see what new puzzle will be placed on the table for them to complete!

I appreciate your generosity and encouragement!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dozier

For many of my students, this is their first experience with attending school. They like having a clear and easy to follow schedule that consists of a lot of repetition. They rotate between centers that consist of individual work stations, one-on-one work stations, sensory play, and free play to work on socialization skills. Most of my students are nonverbal, which makes it difficult for them to communicate their wants and needs. This also plays a large role in their receptive language and understanding what is being asked of them. Rotating through the same centers with similar work each day helps each student better understand the material and become familiar with daily routines.
