SOS: Update Science Lab Materials
Funded Oct 17, 2018Thank you for your generous donation to our science classroom. We were in desperate need of new safety goggles this year. Over the years we have lost and broken our goggles and it was nice to have a new set for the class. Safety is very important in the science classroom and the students' safety is always a priority for me. One way we can stay safe is having proper safety goggles to protect their eyes during lab activities. The students were excited to get new goggles and they appreciate your help in getting us the goggles in addition to the other materials we asked for this year.
Thank you again for your donation. We haven't had a chance to use the board games and spring scales yet, but the students are looking forward to using them in a future lab activity.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron Fuel Your School.NGSS, Here We Come!
Funded Oct 5, 2017Thank you for your generous contribution of all the science lab materials we were able to obtain through DonorsChoose.org. We recently began the new curriculum last week and were able to use many of the materials we needed to learn about Electromagnetic Forces. In the pictures provided, students were studying how magnets behave and how the Earth has an electromagnetic force surrounding it. The students also built a simple motor with a battery and wire. They were able to make the wire spin on one end of the battery. This was a simple, but very engaging activity that the students enjoyed. The students made it a little competition between groups about who could make their motor spin the fastest/longest. Without these materials, the students would not have the opportunity to participate in hands on activities that are both fun and engaging. Thank you again for your donation.”

Literacy in Science: Making Reading Fun Again!
Funded Oct 5, 2016Thank you for your generous donation to my 8th grade science classrooms. Science literacy is a passion of mine and I look for ways get my students interested in reading science current event articles. Sometimes the articles in major science publications can be difficult to understand for my 8th graders.
ScienceWorld by Scholastic is a perfect magazine for my middle school students to read the latest science discoveries and build on their science literacy. We have used the magazine several times this year and students are so engaged in what they are reading. It makes them want to research further into the current event and learn more about the topic. Even when we are done reading an article, the students want to continue reading the other articles in the magazine because they want to learn more about what it going on in the world of science.
Thank you again for your donation. The students and I truly appreciate your generosity and we look forward to the new issue every month.”

3D Printer For STEM Project!
Funded Dec 4, 2013Thank you for your generous contribution to help fund our classroom 3D Printer. The students are excited to learn how to use the printer and start building models for their upcoming Invention Convention project. In this project, students will work in groups and invent something that is beneficial to all people. In past years when doing this project, the model building aspect has always been the hardest component. With model building, the materials can get expensive, it is time-consuming, and the product does not always come out as planned. With making the models with the 3D printer, it eliminates many of the difficulties that we have encountered in the past.
We have let our colleagues who teach STEM classes borrow the 3D printer and one of their projects was to create a model of a hand that can grasp objects. I've attached a couple pictures from that project. It was a very successful and fun project for the students in STEM. I was amazed at the quality of work and the creativity that went into designing the hands. We have tested the 3D printer ourselves and designed a few objects including pencil holders and a bracelet. We look forward to making models for our Invention Convention project when we start it at the end of May. The students can't wait to build more objects with our 3D printer.”

9th Graders Study Evolution: Did We Really Evolve From Apes?
Funded Nov 5, 2008Thank you so much for your support! I am very happy to know that there are people out there who believe that science is an important subject to learn in school and understand the need for more modern science materials in the classroom. My students and I can't wait to receive the hominid skulls. This will definitely help them begin to understand how we evolved from early man”
