  • Successful with Sticky Notes

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students will love these supplies as they help to make their learning a success. The sticky notes allow them to jot their thinking and share ideas. The white boards are a fun way, quick way to check understanding.

    I truly appreciate your kindness.”

  • Help Build the Bridge to a Love of Reading

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

The project "Help Build a Bridge to a Love of Reading" have brought more graphic novel books into our classroom library. My students love graphic novels, especially my students whose reading level may be a little lower than grade level. These books allow my students to enjoy reading during independent reading time.

I had one student who finished reading "Noise" by Kathleen Raymundo, come to me and say "I'm a little like this girl." That statement was so amazing to hear. To know this girl was able to see herself in literature was truly a gift, a gift that she decided to share.

Your kindness and generousity is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mendes

  • Real Stories - Real Life Heros

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

The project "Real Stories - Real Life Heros" has had a huge impact as we work in our social issue unit in ELA. These stories bring the issues that have faced people to life for my students. When they read the story of an actual person that survived and stood up for what they believe is right. They witness that perseverence and determination can have a hand in change.

In particular, "They Called Us Enemy" by George Takei, bringing light to WWII's Japanese American incarcerations that happened after the attack on Pearl Harbor. This is the history that our students do not often hear about.

Thank you for your kindness and generousity”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mendes

  • Graphic Novels to Grab the Reluctant Reader

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

The donation of these graphic novels has greatly improved engagement in reading. Our independent reading time is full of the graphic novels. My students who read at a lower level, are excited to go to the classroom library and pick out the graphic novels that are the same titles as some of the classic literature in our library.

"Witches" by Roald Dahl and "Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja" by Marcus Emerson have a waiting list because of high recommendations from their peers.

Your kindness and generousity is greatly appreciated.”

  • Back to School Starter Kits for Students

    Funded Sep 9, 2020

Your donations made an amazing impact on our students. We were able to provide each student in grade 6 with a backpack full of school supplies.

For our remote students, this bag could be utilized to hold all of their supplies needed for each day in remote learning. They could then pack everything up in an easy to use package, ready for the next day of learning.

The in-person students used these bags to transport their one to one technology back and forth to school as well as, when we went to full remote, provided them with a mobile classroom supply bag.

The students were so excited when they received their bags, knowing that they were packed with care with your help.

Thank you again for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mendes

  • Building a Love of Reading

    Funded Mar 8, 2020

Thank you for your generosity on helping fulfill this project.

The students in my classes will enjoy the new book series and fantasy books that will be displayed in the classroom soon.

I am looking forward to watching them dive in and and connect with the new characters these books will bring.

    Happy Spring!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mendes

The new book series will encourage students to cheer on the characters they have made a connection with in the first book. They will be able to continue to experience the changes with characters through each book. Many times they state, "I wonder what happens to the main character after this book." The series can answer some of those questions. The graphic novels will allow some of the readers who struggle the opportunity to read the same books as their peers. They will be able to make inferences on what they are seeing in the graphics and connect it to the dialogue the characters are having with each other.
