Having basic needs supplies will help my students, many who are homeless highly/mobile, be able to focus on their academic success vs. having to worry about hunger or hygiene issues (which our students are VERY sensitive about). When students have their basic needs met, they are more likely to participate and achieve in the school setting. They are more confident and willing to take risks in learning and in developing healthy relationships. Students will help package their own "care packages" in backpacks to take home on weekends or when they are in transition, shelter or doubled up with friends. Students will also be able to visit their grade level social worker when they arrive to school hungry or in need of personal care items.
