This project will cover the cost of admission to the Dallas Zoo and round trip bus transportation. My students are going to use their visit to the Dallas Zoo as a culminating project for a project-based learning project where we will explore endangered animals. We will study six endangered animals and record facts about them. Then, we will advocate for these animals through a class parade where we will create banners and pennants and march through our building encouraging others to save these animals. We will also create commercials for these animals using our iPads. We will share these with our schoolmates and our school families through our blogs. Finally, we will collect supplies for a local large cat rescue facility throughout this project. At the end of our project, we will visit this facility and give them the supplies that we collected. Providing our students with the opportunity to visit the Dallas Zoo as a culminating project will allow them to come face to face with the animals that they will be studying and advocating for throughout this project. Students will be able to take a firsthand experience and commit it to memory. Then, they will be able to use this experience to build background knowledge for future studies. It will also establish the importance of giving to others and caring about others in our children.
