  • Looky, Looky, We Need a Chromebooky!!!

    Funded Aug 15, 2019

Thank you for investing in my students. We have received our Chromebooks and can't wait to start utilizing them in our classroom!

This year our district has changed the format of our reading and math benchmarks. We are now using a computer program so, the Chromebooks are perfect for testing in our classroom. Besides using the Chromebooks for testing, we can now utilize various computer apps to help differentiate instruction.

Every one of my students is anxious to get a turn using the Chromebooks. No matter what their skill level, they get excited to do their lesson on the computer. From the lowest performing child to my brightest, I can use the computer for reviewing a previous skill, practicing a new skill, or providing enrichment when needed.”

  • Building Better Readers

    Funded Oct 2, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my latest Donors Choose Project! My students were so excited when the boxes were delivered to our classroom.

My students are having fun using our new resources to help them learn new words and to help them with their reading. The chart paper is being used to make anchor charts to put around the room.

My class and I are so grateful to have donors, like you, support education. Without your help, I would not be able to expose my students to more current activities. We thank you wholeheartedly!”

Thank you so much for your donations and your interest in my classroom. My students were so excited when they heard the great news. especially when the boxes started to arrive.

  • Help Me LEVEL UP!

    Funded Sep 25, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you for your donations! My students and I are excited about our new leveled readers. Due to recent budget cuts, we are taking a more individualized teaching and learning approach. With these leveled readers, I now have books readily available for my varied, leveled students to read.

All of my students are not reading on their grade level. Most are reading below. By assessing and leveling my students, I can teach them to become better readers by giving them books that are not too hard, or easy, for them.

These books will be a great asset to our guided reading program. Those students that are below grade level will not feel as frustrated because I now have books that "fit them just right". I also can challenge the rest to "LEVEL UP!"”

    Ms. R.Ingalsbe

  • Listen, I have Something to Say!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! My students and I were so excited when we received the news that you had funded this project. We were even more thrilled when our new writing materials arrived! My first-graders couldn't wait to tear open the boxes!

We try and write daily in our journals. With new materials to put in our writing center, the students are eager to go when it is their turn during rotations. They love our new PURPLE pencil sharpener! "It's so fast! " " It's so cool!" "Purple's my favorite color!" They are never without a sharpened pencil now. :-)

As we head into the last quarter of our year, my students will be using the writing materials to compose a class book that will include writing samples written throughout the year. They will also be recalling and writing about their first grade experiences.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. R.Ingalsbe

  • Listen, Read, and Learn

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

Thank you so much for contributing to my project, " Listen, Read, and Learn" through Donors Choose. The excitement in my students' faces when this big box was delivered to our classroom... PRICELESS! I have to admit that I was pretty excited, as well. The storage unit is the perfect addition to our listening center.

Space is always an issue in any elementary classroom. Mine is no exception. I am now able to organize and set up my listening center to be more "kid-friendly". The materials are more easily accessible to my students.

My students love the new look of our listening center. They are excited about listening to and reading their books.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. R.Ingalsbe

  • If You Give a Child a Book...

    Funded Dec 13, 2015

Thank you so much for donating to my project, "If You Give a Child a Book". You have no idea how excited my students and I were when we found out we were receiving the books and cds requested.

My students love when I read aloud to them during Story time. Now, with your contribution, my early emergent readers will be able to listen to good literature anytime. My more fluent readers are excited about being able to also read along with the cd.

Our Listening Center is now updated with new reading material. My students can't wait until it's their turn to delve into our new books and cds. Some of them have even started picking out which books they want to read first!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. R.Ingalsbe

I teach first grade in a large, urban school district. My school is a Title 1 school. My students come from a variety of ethnic and low socio-economic backgrounds. We have a high ELL population. Last year, unfortunately, our school was labeled as a "failing school" due to low state test scores. Despite the challenges our students face, our students, parents, and staff work together to give them the best possible education they deserve. Space is a luxury in my classroom. Most of my students' desks are arranged into cooperative groups. Some of my students, however, need and work better by themselves. Some just need more space that allows them to move a little more, but won't disturb someone else's learning. Because my students' needs are so varied, I have had to be more creative with my classroom setup. I am constantly having to move students around, trying to find that "perfect" fit.
