These students are individuals diagnosed with mental and physical disabilities. They learn with nontraditional methods utilizing hands-on techniques. In order to do this my students need activities that incorporate life skills, job skills, and academic skills into one activity. A classroom business is an excellent way to merge "real life" with classroom practices. A coffee business will do just that! The students will create online ordering for teachers and school staff to order a beverage. Students will be in charge of gathering the orders and fulfilling them (with adult help at first). The classroom is in need of the items to make this project successful. We need a couple keurig coffee machines, the items to put in the coffee (creamer, sugar, etc..), k-cups of different flavored coffee and disposable cups with lids. The students impacted are those that are in a high school special education program in a self contained setting. Students range in ages from 13 to 22. The classes focus on life and vocational skills along with required academics delivered in a modified method on the student's individual level.These students learn best when instruction is delivered in a hands on atmosphere that reflects real world scenario’s. With a business type setting these students will be able to incorporate many basic skills that they have learned in the classroom and utilize them in the community. Thomas County School system is a title 1 school system which means that 80% or more of the school system is on free or reduced lunches. Our students will use the proceeds to fund community based instructional activities that they other wise would be unable to attend due to financial
